Perhaps the game that best captured the Dune atmosphere, ironic taking into account the extremely limited technology of the day. The shifting colours, the relentless beauty of the desert, the political intrigue, all is there and by all accounts it should not have worked, yet it did.
Dune 2000 is credited with starting the RTS genre as we know it, but for me Dune is the better game. It's an adventure game that morphs little by little into a strategy game, something that I have not seen since - a game shifting genres partway trough. Those were the times when the rules of gaming were just being written, so experiments were still done. In these modern age of roguelikes, soullikes and deck builders galore, with no imagination whatsoever, I still dream of Dune and of the times when games could be new and original and not just copies of copies of copies.
