ParaWorld (2006)

by SEK, Aspyr Media, Deep Silver
Platforms:
PC (Microsoft Windows)
Genres:Strategy, Sport, Real Time Strategy (RTS)
Themes:Fantasy, Historical
Game modes:Single player, Multiplayer
Story:
The game-concept is similar to "Age of Empires", which is a real-time strategy game. ParaWorld features food, wood, and stone as resources. Food can be picked from bushes, hunted from animals, fished from the sea, or farmed. Stone is located in limited deposits, and wood, cut from trees, is generally scattered throughout a map. Battles can occur on both land and sea. The story takes place in a parallel dimension, where prehistoric life thrives alongside diverse human civilizations that are not technologically advanced. As a result, dinosaurs take the place of traditional wildlife and livestock, though some of the dinosaurs in-game are highly stylized and not necessarily scientifically accurate. Wild-living dinosaurs can be hunted for food, though some are of dangerous and aggressive species and will attack any player unit that wanders too close. Other prehistoric creatures make an appearance as well, for example woolly mammoths are used where other games might feature elephants. Players advance through epochs in order to unlock new technologies and upgrades.

Found it somehow years ago when searching for a good computer game with dinos. Bought it and have enjoyed it since! It needs to be a no CD non-ISO game that will work on modern systems!
I remember playing this game as a kid and constantly coming back to it. Interesting story with variety of characters (including Nicola Tesla), three distinguishable factions and lots of dinosaurs! Unique unit leveling system made your choices matter, where you could upgrade any of your units to higher level by spending some sort of currency, but the higher the levels - the less slots there are. You could reserve the top levels for your heroes or level up a regular swordsman to become one of the greats. The game is very appealing visually, featuring several different biomes with related factions: Vikings in wintery lands, Desert people in ... deserty lands (?) and Asian faction wihin jungle biome.
Loved this game all the way till my computer melted the disc. This game was among my favorites and it deserves new life. GOG please bring it back. Or somebody else remake it even. The concept was amazing the story was fun the gameplay was top notch and omgods I love Dinosaurs...Hmmmm what? Oh sorry. Just feeling nostalgic. Anyway. BRING IT BACK BRING IT BACK lol
Just a game of my childhood. Nothing more to say. First CD game i got on my old pc. I always loved RTS games, and back then I used to love dinos too. This game is what i loved combined.

I was hooked from the first time I saw the game. Man was it cool to read about it in different gaming magazines before it's release, being a young teenager at that time. I got the nice box where you could open up the front cover to see more from the game before playing it. It was too cool. I played the campaign in one sweep. meaning there were no other games for about one moth in between (as I was only allowed to play during weekends back than). Some missions were very hard to beat as someone enjoying the look and feel way too much to build a solid army before exploring the map in mission 15. The timer killed me about four times before browsing the internet on how to beat this mission. The campaign was so intriguing, I would really love to see my wife and children explore the lands of ParaWorld and see the same excitement and joy I felt back when I was a teen. (Probably would again, but time is spent best with the family instead of setting up a VM and make it work again. Still have the Box and working disc waiting to show me the glory of that world once again.) Quite mentionable is also the tier system, allowing only a certain amount of troops in each tier. Since the ultimate dino of each tribe was only available in the two topmost tiers one had to balance the interest of where to upgrade the army. And did I mention that the heroes also occupied slots in the 'tier try'. Balancing awesome cool dinos vs. getting the nice tesla towers at tier four? Obviously there was only one slot at tier five, the highest tier. Always the hassle to choose a hero or the tribes most powerful dino! I even made my friends played this game on LAN parties when most of them only focused on RTS. Anyone else out there dying to play the campaign again, exploring the different tribes and the whole plot behind the operations of Jarvis Babbit and the SEAS?
Very nice maps. Very nice fantasy. Good looking creatures. Good stories and adventures. I like it most. It is my favourite game I ever played. Please bring it back.

One of my Core Childhood Memory Games and I would really Love to See this Game Return/be preserved officially on this Website. And pls with Multiplayer Option/ Windows 11 support If possible. One of the Most Unique RTS and a cool Story/variety of Chars and Folks from the old Times. Sadly the Developer team got shut down and there might Not be a second Game ...
Paraworld is mega cool. Great story reminiscent of adventure films and science fiction. Bombastic music, dinosaurs and extinct mammals, very pretty graphics. Paraworld ist mega cool. Tolle Story die an Abenteurerfilme und Science Fiction erinnert. Bombastische Musik, Dinosaurier und ausgestorbene Säugetiere, grafisch sehr hübsch.
Being a dinosaur kid and a fan of RTS games this is one of THE RTS games i think of when i think of a classic, a underrated gem of a game that deserved better. Had a poster of it above my bed for at least 10 years with that gorgeous Trex unit. Visually it was great, story wise it was very much a B movie but with a very charming setting. 3 visually distinct factions (4 with a mod) Tho to this day i still remember not being able to beat that final mission withouth cheating.
Those games also need your vote!

Black & White 2
Black & White 2In the game, the player takes the role of a god called from the void (nothingness) to help those who invoked them. However, the player is not an omnipotent style god, but rather a god who rises and falls with his believers and the player must help develop their nature according to their good or evil desires. The player also has a creature, their physical representation in the world, which takes the form of an anthropomorphic ape, lion, wolf, turtle, cow, or tiger. Its physical manifestation can grow to an immense size, and adopt a good or evil persona separate of the player's. They develop their character as the player rewards or punishes their actions. In addition to the god simulation and city-building elements introduced in the original Black & White, Black & White 2 also features elements of real-time strategy gameplay, with the addition of controllable warfare and fighting units.

Dune

As the player progresses, his troops are equipped with weapons from "crysknives" to atomics, tap into Paul's latent psychic powers, and get acquainted with such characters from the book as Chani and Liet-Kynes.
