Terranigma is, to my recollection, one of, if not THE last game to be released on the SNES. I remember seeing a review of it in a game magazine way back in the day, and I was fascinated with it immediately. It is a fantastic game, and the fact that it's almost impossible to play legally these days, along with other Quintet games like SoulBlazer, ActRaiser 2 and Illusion of Gaia is a downright travesty.
I recall the first time I played the game and when you first stepped out of the starting village. Without spoiling anything, THAT moment convinced me the game was going to be something truly memorable.
And I STILL had NO idea what was coming! What happened after Chapter 1 blew my mind. Suddenly the scope of the game was beginning to reveal itself, and epic doesn't even begin to describe it.
The pixel art and animations are top notch for the era, as are the animations of the main character, Ark, in particular. The combat is a lot of fun with a good list of moves to pull off for a game of this genre.
The music is also absolutely stellar, and sets the tone of the game brilliantly. It has an incredible mix of melancholy and hopefulness for a lot of tracks, with more upbeat tunes here and there, and also much more ominous, eerie ones.
This game really should be widely available for everyone to play (legally!), so seeing this somehow, miraculously pop up on GOG (along with the other lost Quintet games) would be absolutely phenomenal.
