For now GOG Downloader does not run under Linux, not even with Wine-like emulation. I would like to see GOG.com officially support a Linux client (maybe through existing community project ?)
I play most of my games on Linux and have been using GoG Galaxy through Lutris which is painful. I'd love a linux version of GOG since you already all support linux installations!

Valve's support of Linux in recent years has left a big opening for GOG to jump in on. More support for Linux only benefits GOG. Sure, Linux overall benefits quite a lot from getting more gaming support, but GOG in turn benefits from the increased support of Linux if they support it in turn with their installers.In other words, it's symbiotic. Linux is the exact right platform for GOG to be pushing support for. You just can't trust Microsoft Windows these days. As more people decide to just go for Linux and Steam Proton, GOG should be taking advantage of this and creating their own support. There's nothing wrong with riding Valve's coattails with Linux support. Everyone benefits. There are literally no downsides.
lutris doesnt save your game time and cloud saves. heroics game launcher does save the cloud saves. but the archievements and game time are often not tracked. thats why i use bottles to play GOG games since years so i can have all the features of the GOG galaxy launcher and DRM free gaming on linux. yes it would be easier if we had a nativ linux version. but bottles is the best we have since years.
If Heroiclauncher works and GOG is happy with it then that's great. I think they should do more to promote it then. It should also be easy to download and install offline installers on Linux. Properly supporting top gaming distros would be a great win for GOG and I would love to have the option of putting a GOG menu on batocera.It should be easy and convenient to run GOG games on distros below:SteamOSBatoceraPOP OSBazziteCachyOS
Lutris and Heroic let you download and install, plus run your GOG games which is a suitable substitute for GOG Galaxy.

With Valve supporting Linux gaming, it's going to become more and more popular a platform for gaming. GOG should jump aboard, as well. Probably a fair number of people passing up GOG for Steam due to Linux support.
There ARE downloaders for Linux already, search for "gogrepoc.py" or "LGOGDownloader" or "GOGG" or "Heroic Games Launcher", the latter being a game launcher similar to "Galaxy" or" Steam".I don NOT want a Steam/Galaxy-style client for Linux spying on me.

I'm kind of in awe that there's no native Linux app. Isn't GOG's whole thing is that they're big on DRM free? And you don't have a native client for the most DRM free platform in the world?What're you guys waiting for?
What do you mean by "downloader?" You can pick any downloader of your choice to download the software you bought.
One of the reasons I stopped using GOG and the client is that there is no native Linux support. Although while I was using Windows, I was an apologist for DRM free and GOG as a replacement for Steam in particular, trying to buy games in GOG.Today I have Linux on both my laptop and PC, and I also have a Steam Deck. And although I can install each specific game from GOG via Wine or a third-party client, it is easier for me to use the ready-made functionality of Steam.It would be nicer to have an official and native GOG client.

I bought a Steam Deck OLED 1TB, Steam Dock, & aprox €350,00 of games from steam on the first day of the OLED release. I did this primarily to add weight to what Valve are doing (though I disagree with their EULA). GOG would be a better option for me but I not only want DRM free, but the option/ability to choose what platform I use. Valve is proving that not only is linux a viable platform for gaming, but that there is a growing market for it ... consumers who are tired of vendor (and hardware/OS) lock in, and expect to be treated as more than a revenue stream.GOG should already be offering a linux client, and, like Valve, investing resources in improving this area, because they are a business and the market is such that many consumers would chose this option over those offered by Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft ... and, perhaps, Valve.It wouldn't be too difficult for GOG to intergrate a client into SteamOS, it is a (mostly) open platform. The Steam Deck (and other PC handhelds ... and desktops) are similarly open. A "GogOS" could build on Valve's success, and tap into a pre-existing community of developers, enthusiasts, and users. There are at least two SteamOS clones for PC, and a variety of retro gaming OSes/UI's running on a wide variety of hardware ... including SteamOS (ie, EmuDeck). The fact that GOG *isn't* currently operating within this area, and that no client for linux exists, makes little sense, it is a market that GOG could (with some limited investment) tap.
I honestly thought this must have been sorted out already - but its not? What the hell... I also know that the games I bought run well on linux because I already were playing pirated copies just bought them because wanting to properly own the IP - but likely this way its easier to just pirate and install myself or when its possible just use steam... Honestly steam people / valve earns my money more because what they do for linux support....It would really make a lot of sense to have GOG on linux.

heroicgamelauncher integrates gog and epic on linux. please have a look. it would be nice for an official release, but this is the workaround i have used!

Yes, please! Having an integrated, native client for Linux just makes perfect sense in 2023! True, some of us are happy to download the offline installers for games but giving us Linux users a native client would be a wonderful way to show your support for Linux gaming. Oh yeah, integrating that client with Wine is a huge plus. DO IT! GET 'ER DONE!!!
