Black & White 2 (2005)

by Lionhead Studios, Robosoft Technologies, Electronic Arts, Feral Interactive
Platforms:
Mac, PC (Microsoft Windows)
Genres:Role-playing (RPG), Adventure, Strategy, Simulator, Real Time Strategy (RTS)
Themes:Action, Fantasy, Comedy, Sandbox
Game modes:Single player
Story:
In the game, the player takes the role of a god called from the void (nothingness) to help those who invoked them. However, the player is not an omnipotent style god, but rather a god who rises and falls with his believers and the player must help develop their nature according to their good or evil desires. The player also has a creature, their physical representation in the world, which takes the form of an anthropomorphic ape, lion, wolf, turtle, cow, or tiger. Its physical manifestation can grow to an immense size, and adopt a good or evil persona separate of the player's. They develop their character as the player rewards or punishes their actions. In addition to the god simulation and city-building elements introduced in the original Black & White, Black & White 2 also features elements of real-time strategy gameplay, with the addition of controllable warfare and fighting units.

played both in my youth so many good memorys with the game. playing with my mate working on 1 pc to build and settlement and be a good god then a mate taking over his turn and being evil as hell to them .
This was the 1st Black & White game I got. Sadly I wasn't able to get Black and White 1. So I was given this and I loved it, I would send my followers flying like skipping pebbles around, sending my monster out to kill everything in site, and watch my followers give me power, and send them out to die in armies. I do still have disks but I don't want to deal with that and installing old software is a nightmare. :( I would love to play both Black & White 2 and Black & White. :D

It's been many many years since I even thought of this game, but I got hit with a wave of joyous Nostalgia and went hunting for it, GOG has already helped me get hold of old games again and I could find non shady place to get it. This game was so fun that I can even describe it, I would jump on my Nan's old pc and pop the disk in and giggle and laugh away to myself. I realise recently that something I quote now and then was from BNW2 which was the devil saying "Make him a warrior" and for some reason that always made me laugh. I would love to have this game again! It will hold a special place in my heart for both the awesome gameplay, the way it taught a younger me about consequences and of good times and my Nan's house and many a pancake Tuesday!

I have extremely fond memories of playing this game when I was very young. It was a city building game, with little mini puzzles, a little action when you had to defeat the other gods. And you had a minion to do your bidding; I loved the creatures. They were my favorite. Out of all of the god games I've played, I never found another that gave you a creature to play with, that also played with your villagers... Or the other God's villagers.. both in good ways and bad. But even the bad ways were a fun part of the game, like sending your creature to eat people from the next village over. Hand casting to perform miracles was neat. The list just goes on and on... I want to see a black and white 3. Or even just a remake of the first two. Kind of like how FF7 did a "rebirth"... Yeah I want that from b&w.

This game wasn’t just a game for me; it was a whole experience that shaped so many of my gaming memories. I spent countless hours immersed in its world, balancing between being an all-powerful benevolent god or embracing my inner mischievous side (okay, sometimes full-on evil, but who’s counting?). The moral choices, the breathtaking landscapes, and the bond with my creature were absolutely unforgettable. And let’s not even get started on the soundtrack — it still plays in my head to this day! I know I’m not the only one who holds this game dear to their heart. It’s a classic, and it deserves a revival so new generations can experience its magic too. GOG has done such an incredible job bringing back other beloved games, and I truly believe Black & White 2 would be a perfect addition to your collection.

Black and White 2 was a game that I would sink hours into as a kid. I loved getting my familiar and then playing with raising it different ways and seeing the effect it had on my city and people. It was such a unique game in the genre and so goofy.

The game is great! It was so funny to watch my girlfriend (now my wife) enjoying it. Hope to play it again with her and our son - which giant "pet" will they choose, this time?!
This game had a remarkable Campaign with the most hillarious spin on RTS-Games. It made the Idea of beeing an god like beeing into a gameplay element. You play a god who chosses a good or bad karma for their civilization by doing good or bad things. I played this games campaign as a kid and kind of struggled because it wasnt that easy to get a good reputation. It was still fun because it was just awesome to interact with the residents of my realm or to punish my enemies when I fully commited myself on beeing an evil god. I want to play it again on modern pc-hardware and see it DRM-free.
Those games also need your vote!
Black & White
Black & WhitePlay the role of a deity in a land where the surroundings are yours to shape and its people are yours to lord over. Be an evil, malevolent god and the natives will worship you with fear in their eyes. Play as a kind, benevolent god and they will worship you with love in their hearts. Your actions decide whether you create a heaven or hell for your worshipers. Then select a creature from the land to act as your representative in the world. Raise it to gigantic proportions and teach it to do your bidding--whether the animal grows into an evil colossus of mass destruction or a kind and gentle giant is up to you. Progress through the game's rich storyline performing powerful miracles to battle other deities and become the world's supreme god.

Freelancer
FreelancerEight hundred years prior to the start of our story, bitter conflict divided all of mankind. A handful of colonists struck out on their own to begin anew - far away from the Earth and its turmoil. Several ships were launched with enough equipment and supplies to give the hundreds onboard a fighting chance - but since the area around far-off Sirius had never been surveyed, no one really knew what to expect. What they found was a new frontier of free-flowing natural resources, unexplored territories, great wonders and lurking dangers. Each ship, representing the clusters of people and their earthly place of origin, settled into different parts of the galaxy pre-selected by their ship-board computer to give them the best chance of survival. Life was hard in the beginning, but over the 800 years the different colonies prospered and expanded their territories, claiming more and more systems for their own. Survival and propagation eventually led to growth and profit as each of the colonies developed specialties and fostered commerce. As the colonies grew and time passed their connections with their roots on Earth dwindled and they lost their memories of the conflicts of the past. Soon their attention was dominated by new, more immediate conflicts. Feelings of lost ancestral connection spurred anachronism in the look of the great cities, and created a somewhat distorted image of each colony's cultural heritage. In the ever-expanding outer edge of the territories, frontier lawlessness prevailed. The Houses: Each shipboard colony that left Earth carried some memory of its origins in its name. The Liberty carried Americans, The Bretonia flew from The United Kingdom and surrounding territory, The Kusari from Asia, and the Rheinland launched with Germanic cargo. As each ship settled and colonies began to expand, they knew little about each other and their advancing development. Finally, little by little, the individual colonies found each other and began to set up trade routes to link their systems for commerce and solidarity. Today, with each colony firmly rooted in its respective corner of the galaxy, the colonies rely heavily on each other for trade and industry but also compete for resources and new territories in the Border Worlds. The colonies mandate member governments in "The New Alliance" within the Sirius sector. To control conflicts, each colony has forged alliances and treaties with others as they have grown. Competition remains fierce, however. Struggles rage for supremacy in business, commerce, resources, power and control. There can be tenuous peace between colonies' political agendas, but the grabs for holdings constantly unsettle the volatile frontier.
