The first game that I ever remember playing with my own two hands, BoF 3 shaped my love of games, RPGs, and dragons. It's a game I come back to, time and time again, a yearly tradition to play through it on my birthday, even if it has some stumbling with the minigames, I still love it every single time.

The massive Prima Games walkthrough. The heart-breaking twists with certain party members. The incomparable soundtrack, that I'm proud to own on vinyl, 28 years after release. Breath of Fire III is my first core gaming memory, and it remains my favourite RPG of all time even now at 32 years old. I've replayed time and time again through questionable means. Let me once-again support the one series that deserved a far better death than the mobile game graveyard.

I have a looong history with this game... I spent years on my first playthrough. I didn't have my own copy for a long time so I only got to play when we visited my relatives. Then I'd gotten my own copy but my playstation broke. When it was fixed my controller broke. My younger brother then scratched the cd, deleted my save file... And then my playstation broke again. This kept going for about 7-8 years. I couldn't get past the cube puzzle in Momo's tower ever during this time. I tried every combination, didn't see the clue in the lower floor an kept trying to click all four cubes lol... And I had to restart the whole game to get back there so many times... still can't get the OST out of my head, I was so stubbornly going back up and falling down just to fight my way back up and repeat that I eventually reached level 50-60... alas that was the save file my brother had deleted lol Then at last I had everything in place. A working ps, a working copy, a good controller, my brother was old enough to not accidentally delete my file and I finally FINALLY finished the playthrough and it was so satisfying too! By then of course the game already had irreversibly shaped my whole personality but it was damn worth it!

One of my all time favourite RPGs. Turning into various dragons, a weretiger and a turnip with legs, no other game has anything like it. Has a village you can build. It has some of the best systems to come to RPGs all rolled into one. It follows the protagonist when they are young and then grown up, and has an incredible story. It’s just a great game.

Breath of Fire 3 is one of several formative games for me as a dragon fanatic and dragon lover. As someone with a deep connection to these wonderful beautiful creatures of our imagination, Breath of Fire 3 has an almost spiritual feeling to it. The themes and the story resonates with me on a deep level. I was just a kid when I first played this game on the Playstation 1, but it captivated me as soon as I realized that no, that adorable whelp in that crystal wasn't the enemy that WAS YOU! YOU ARE THE DRAGON! I actually felt this way in Breath of Fire 2 when I played it. But it was even stronger for Breath of Fire 3. Leave it to Japan, along with a few Western storytellers who wrote stories such as Dragonriders of Pern, to show that dragons can't just be enemies but can be friends, and an avenue to explore identity, nature VS. nurture, and how humanity is more than skin deep. Dragons are now more loved than ever! I only just recently beat Breath of Fire 3 on RetroArch. That's right, I never beat it as a kid. I got to the penultimate boss at some point, then found it way too hard and quit for some reason to pursue other gaming endeavors. Finally beating Breath of Fire 3 has only made me appreciate how much it means to me. Such an amazing, fun, cozy, and surprisingly philosophical journey! Just, let's not talk about some of those minigames, huh? Except for fishing and the fairy village, those are fun! I'd like to see this game come out on GOG because, well, I want an excuse to toss money at Capcom and at anyone willing to preserve this game. I want to tell Capcom that we need Breath of Fire to come back in some way. I'm primarily a PC gamer now, and I would like to not rely on emulation all the time, I want all the HD improvements and modern fixes without all the potential issues. Heck, I would like to not feel the guilt of just downloading a game for free when I'm more than willing to pay for a fixed up and overhauled version of a classic game.

To me, this was the game that showed that 3D could be beautiful. While its contemporary, Final Fantasy VII, was getting all the mainstream attention, I honestly found its low-poly blocky characters and clunky storyline hideous, a huge step backwards from Square's previous efforts in FFVI and Chrono Trigger. They just didn't know how to do 3D well yet, and it showed. But then I came across breath of Fire III. Capcom also didn't know how to do 3D well at the time, but unlike Square they were able to admit it, using high-res (for the day) sprites instead of ugly squarish blocks of geometry, in 3D environments. *This* was the upgrade over the SNES visuals that I had been hoping for with the new console! And the story! Wow! Where we once had a Dragon Clan in decline, now Ryu is the last one left, an orphan boy trying to figure out his place in the world. The familiar elements from the first two games are still there, updated for a new game, and the addition of mechanics like Masters for training new skills and the Dragon Gene system for building mix-and-match dragon combinations... just incredible. It was exactly what my RPG-loving soul needed at the time. Where Final Fantasy let existing fans down with ugly graphics and a disappointing story about an insane protagonist fighting a pretty boy with an Oedipus complex — a *huge* step backwards from Kefka! — Breath of Fire stepped up to the plate and delivered an RPG worthy of sinking hours and days and weeks into. Sadly, Capcom being Capcom, they've let it languish and today it's nearly forgotten. Please, help bring this masterpiece of a game back out of obscurity!

Used to rent this as a kid from a place called Choices in the UK, yes back when they rented out PS1 games 😅 and for some reason my kid brain just could not figure out the cubes in Momo's tower. Didn't have internet at home to Google the problem and smartphones weren't even a concept yet, let alone mainstream! Don't think I ever figured out the cubes as a kid so never got past the tower... But since playing again after growing up I can proudly admit I *have* worked out the cubes! But still never beaten the game... But I would still love to have this game more readily available on PC both for nostalgia and to be able to finally beat the game!

BoF 3 was my very first RPG. It means a lot to me ever since my childhood. I was a little girl enjoying this game to the fullest and up to today it's still my No One on my Game List. To see this game getting released again would mean the World to me. I still got a copy for the PS1, it's one of my treasures. Ryu and Rei are the heros of my childhood and I would be overjoyed to see them returning.

Fable: The Lost ChaptersFable was expanded and rereleased as Fable: The Lost Chapters for Xbox and Windows PC platforms in September 2005.
