My favorite PS1 JRPG, and in my top 5 games of all time.
I first discovered Breath of Fire 3 while staying at my dad's for the summer as a kid in the early-mid 2000s. My step mom ran an antique shop (Better Homes & Bargains), she asked me if I wanted to test some used games for fun, so I did. Among those games were Breath of Fire 3, and Final Fantasy VII, another favorite of mine. I could only make it so far in BoF3 and FF7 before I had to go back to my mom's. Years later, I got into the emulation scene, and played the rest of BoF 3 that way, and it ended up being one of my top JRPGs. I also bought the physical PSP version later and replayed it on that. it's almost identical to the PS1 version.
Breath of Fire 3 has many unique mechanics, especially for the time, such as it's dragon transformation system (the best one in the series), in which you combine up to 3 genes (which are found throughout the world), to transform into different dragons, with different abilities and stats, depending on the gene combination. Then there's the enemy skill system, which you get by examining enemies as they are about to use a learnable skill. There's also the master system, which influences a character's stat growth while they're apprenticed under a master, as well as teaching them skills after gaining a number of levels. There's a fishing minigame, which yields fish items that can be used in battle, or traded at Manillos (fish dude merchants - that you fish out of the water, quite comical, I know.) for useful gear and items. Finally, there's the Faerie Village, where you can build a village and run shops, services, and minigames, which can be incredibly useful (I liked BoF 2's Township system better imo, it could be even better with a potential remake).
There IS a Chinese only PC port of BoF 3, so there is a possibility of getting it on here... but it would be backwards to work with. It would be easier to resort to officially sanctioned emulation, just saying.
