The remake was great, but even for all its strengths it can't capture the lightning-in-a-bottle that is the original SH2. I remember the first time I saw this game, it was on a CRT while my brother and his friend were playing it. The foggy atmosphere and the music made me so frightened that I didn't wanna look.
I didn't rediscover the game again until the Super Best Friends lets play channel did stuff on it which got me interested, so I tracked down the original PC copy back in the day, and playing through it transformed a lot of the way I view games. I think all games are art, but SH2 is an artistic game in a way that most big budget mainstream games are not. The way it tells its story and the way it is able to horrify you hits you harder still to this day than most horror games, and you cannot shake the influence this game had on so many others.
It deserves to be preserved and remembered for all time.
