To this day, even after a surprisingly great remake, this is still the unmatched best horror game ever made, and one of the greatest horror works of all time. Such an intimate mechanical exploration of depression, guilt, and grief deserves to be experienced by everyone, especially the people struggling with mental health themselves. I, personally, found this game important in my own struggles and it helped me accept and come to terms with things I was dealing with in my own life. It's a shame, then, that the original is still largely unobtainable legally outside of a frankly awful HD Collection. The PC version deserves to be preserved, especially so more people can have access to the Enhanced Edition mod, which turns the game into the definitive version of Silent Hill 2.
