One of the greatest gaming series ever, and absolutely PEAK movie tie in games. The game play, while lacking depth, was insanely fun. The campaign was simply genius. Being able to carry units over from map to map really let specific units shine as they leveled up and grew in power. The cheese strats you could do were stupid fun to pull off. Churn out a bunch of units, hit the command point cap, then send them off to die to a single soldier in the unit. Recruit more units, rinse lather repeat. Next map, you'd have an army that was 3x the command point limit, and could just steam roll the entire game from there. Incredibly fun, and I desperately want it on GoGAglaraAndune

I'd like to upgrade and collect the armies for the final battle. I liked the feature where I was able to combine different type of teams into one. For example one of my toughest group was assembled from Gondorian tower guards and elven archers. Also I liked very much the cavalry archers. Very useful units. Also I liked that the heroes were upgradeable, and at the level 10, they were technically undefeateables.
I was impressed by this game when it came out - the emoting units and the movie images. I tried to play it on my Desktop - 1.6 Ghz Athlon, 640 RAM (32 reserved for integrated video). Closed everything, even the internet. I only got trough the menus to lower the settings and it still crashed on loading the map. Would be great if I can get it from GOG to give it another try.
It is the best RTS for me as a lover of the lord of the rings. However, I have no CD for the installation as I loss my CD, striking hard to find the another ways to play it one more time

I played it as a kid, and it was an outstanding RTS game. The ability to merge troops, the hero units, and the base-building were outstanding for their time—and still are today.
The nearby computer shop had this installed. I didn't know enough of the lore to dive into story mode, but i knew enough of the system that i could play several skirmish matches and enjoy each session. Granted, i knew so little that i'd always default to Gondor. Because Gandalf was fun.

There hasn't been anything like it since. A game that matched the excitement of the franchised/license. I haven't watched a video or played it in at least over 15 years, but I can still remember the audio, UI, gameplay etc. So bloody good.

i am a huge fan of the lord of the rings and i have vary fond memories of playing this game with my brother in law and it was one of his favorites and i just want to play this again to hold tight to that memory since he has passed iv look ed and looked but have had no luck finding it to play.
I remember playing this game as a kid and making sure I never lost a squad on the good campaign and then playing the Evil campaigh and just having piles of dead Orcs. It was a good Risk type game for the LOTR series and was true to the movies, it's a shame this is basically abandonware at this point

Black & White 2
Black & White 2In the game, the player takes the role of a god called from the void (nothingness) to help those who invoked them. However, the player is not an omnipotent style god, but rather a god who rises and falls with his believers and the player must help develop their nature according to their good or evil desires. The player also has a creature, their physical representation in the world, which takes the form of an anthropomorphic ape, lion, wolf, turtle, cow, or tiger. Its physical manifestation can grow to an immense size, and adopt a good or evil persona separate of the player's. They develop their character as the player rewards or punishes their actions. In addition to the god simulation and city-building elements introduced in the original Black & White, Black & White 2 also features elements of real-time strategy gameplay, with the addition of controllable warfare and fighting units.
