Absolutely ground-breaking in its day. Essentially a life-sim sandbox where, if I remember rightly, there is guidance and specific goals but you can choose to just do your own thing and go for your own goals. A real time-soak at times - the 'just one more day' hook was powerful. Somewhere along the way later sequels became prettier but a lot less fun.BlackPhi

Absolutely ground-breaking in its day. Essentially a life-sim sandbox where, if I remember rightly, there is guidance and specific goals but you can choose to just do your own thing and go for your own goals. A real time-soak at times - the 'just one more day' hook was powerful. Somewhere along the way later sequels became prettier but a lot less fun.

The Sims was one title that pulled me into PC gaming as an actual platform. While I'll admit to initially pirating the game (I was in college and peer pressure enticed me to grab a copy from the student intranet), I later picked up a legit copy to go with the expansions. Despite the expansion costs, I've kept grabbing them as they were released and got me into custom content (from other users and websites). I would occasionally go "Sims Shopping" to find that new skin or that new item to make the game more interesting (including stuff that partially broke the main gameplay loop). While the game is still playable on modern hardware, having to engage compatibility mode (back to Windows XP) with admin rights and having to pull out a USB DVD-ROM drive to install everything in the proper order has dampen return visits to this classic title that started a series. Getting this properly preserved with GOG would make it easier to revisit those fantasies (both original and dark varieties... seriously, who never wanted to kill a Sim for fun?) without the massive tedium and headaches.

This is one of the Games I played in my Childhood. I really loved this game. Unfortunately the CDs are broken, and I don't put any money in a DRM protected one from EA for now. I never got the chance to play DLCs as they were expensive at the days I played that game.

The first game in The Sims series is still definitely worth playing, even with a fifth installment supposedly on the way. Its graphics have a unique old-school charm, especially the beautifully detailed 2D sprites used for furniture and decorations. Plus, it has the best soundtrack in the entire series. The Sims has always reflected the fashion and atmosphere of its time, and as such, this game is a real nostalgia trip. If it ever came to GOG, it would be great to see improvements for high-resolution support and maybe a fix for the long load times when all expansion packs are installed.

This game has been legally challenging to get working on modern machines, what with the lack of optical drives and the removal of SafeDisc support in Windows 10. I feel that being able to play one of the most influential PC titles of the 2000s shouldn't take over an hour to get set up. If the rumors are true that this game, alongside it's sequel, are getting re-released officially, then I'd love to see them get the GOG treatment as well!

This game developed a new subgenre of video games, and had a huge cultural impact. It is one of the most important PC releases of all-time. The Sims was so far ahead of its' time. Personally growing up, this was always a cozy game I could go back to. Preserving it on GOG forever DRM-free would be a massive win for game preservation.

This game is like a time capsule to life in the 90s and early 2000. It showcases the time before smartphones and social media, when landlines and dialup ruled the earth 🌎. It's nostalgic in a way few other games could even hope to be.

Still remember the catastrophy my first Sims gameplay was. Totally inexperienced, I created family of eight, two adults and six kids. The first ever cooking ended in a fire that killed both adults. But despite this catastrophe I was still hooked by this game and would love to relive my memories. Maybe even remake my first family and hope that this time they will have better lives ;-)

The original Sims is still a great immersive experience. The graphics may be primitive, but that adds to the "feel" of playing with a dollhouse. There are still websites that put out creator content for this version of the game. The Sims 4 is a shell of a game compared to what came before it and has literally become a cash grab vs. the original Sims 1 & 2, which were games made for gamers by a gamer.

The game that completely changed gaming, being the first to introduce girls to videogames. The world never was the same. For better or worse, this is one of the most influential games ever, the most perfect from the series, and has the best dlc (Makin' Magic). It has to be preserved for eternity!
