Hi!

I am currently experiencing the same issue - even with my original CD versions. I've tried various wrappers, compatibility modes and such - to no avail. Symptoms are the same as yours - game immediately hangs when loading a save - or - if it somehow gets past that point - it will freeze on the nearest activity - such as looting or casting fireball.

On Windows 10 it worked flawlessly - problems started upon upgrading to Windows 11 - the same as in your case. Maybe that's the culprit? Either way, currently I'm out of ideas;/

I've managed to run the game a bit, and discovered some details:

*Quicksaving or loading a quicksave will almost always cause a freeze, while normal saving always works and loading normal saves usually works but eventually leads to a freeze.
*Once it has frozen, the chance of new freezes when restarting the game seems to increase a lot. Restarting the computer seems to reset this.
*I almost never get freezes from other causes.

Interesting. Looks like the game is having some weird issues with memory management or something like that. I've asked my buddy to check if he is having the same problems on Win 11 - and he sure did have the same freezes.

I've also discovered that other games running Infinity Engine are having issues as well. Icewind Dale freezes after loading a save too. Icewind Dale 2 runs without problems as long as you stay on one map - whenever you venture into other place, the game will crash.

But curiously, original Baldur's Gate runs without any problems. Which means that only games using later versions of Infinity Engine are affected.

Just finished BG1 TOS on a Win 11 machine and experienced no freezing. Started up BG2 Complete and as soon as I tried to exit the starting area--specifically, using one of the portals--and the game attempted to auto save, it froze. Now it freezes after almost every quick save or auto save. I tried some of the fixes online: running as administrator, turning off cloud saves, but nothing seemed to help. I reinstalled and quick saves worked, but as soon as I tried to exit an area (again, specifically using a portal), it would auto save and freeze. Would be nice if GOG investigated this and came up with a fix like they did for DAO's memory leak issue. The game is basically unplayable in this state, which means that if I want to play BG2, my only option left is the Enhanced Edition.
