Since I don't have money for a good PC I mostly play games on my Laptop. (I don't want to buy a PC yet). So I have 50€ and want to buy something here.

I'm looking for some games that take time to play. (Don't like short story games.) Games that require effort/time. Something "endless" like Stardew valley, rimworld, terraria or Sims Series. It doesnt need to be "endless" just a game that isn't short.

My specs are: Intel HD Graphics 620, Intel Core i3-7020U CPU 2,30Ghz with 4gb of RAM

Any of the classic RPGs should run well. I'm currently hundreds of hours deep into Neverwinter Nights Enhanced Edition. The huge repository of community modules is, essentially, endless.

Lighter, but compelling, is Streets of Rogue.

Morrowind doesn't need a beast of a machine. Again, hundreds of hours in there.

Europa Universalis, Crusader Kings or Hearts of Iron if you like strategy.

Some games that I've played on my low spec laptop:
Tangledeep
The Bard's Tale Trilogy (remaster, though the originals may work via emulation)
The Quest (some actions do require mouse/trackpad usage, but the game is strictly turn-based, so that helps)

Note that my laptop's specs are worse than yours (except for RAM), and that I am running Linux on it.

Also, I've played Celeste (not on GOG, but DRM-free on itch.io) on my desktop (with broken cooling) without issue, so if you have the means to play a 2D platformer, you might check it out. (If you're worried about length, don't worry, as there's tons of extra challenging content, including a chapter that was added later that's by far the longest in the game, and there are custom levels out there if that's somehow not enough.) These two games, I believe, really do need a mouse, however. I would not suggest trying to play them with just a trackpad.

(I don't know about NWN, but I know that Morrowind also needs you to use the keyboard at the same time.)

Any specific genres you like that you wanna mention?

Personal faves I've been playing regularly on a laptop so lo-spec it doesn't need cooling:

Wolfenstein 3D (once you get beyond the blocky graphics; if you want to beat it for real, play as if it was a permadeath game (don't save)).
The original Doom series. I never tire of these =D
Master of Orion 1 & 2. The larger galaxies will melt your time.
Sword of the Stars. IMO the most exquisite of space sims. I know many would disagree, but what won me over (and made me lose months of consecutive gaming time) were the battle sequences where you can zoom in on ships while in battle, the tons of strategic and tactical depth (for instance, every 'race' have their own means of interstellar travel), and the beautiful map structure.

With that machine you could probably run most games that don't need hi-res 3D. There are a huge number of games on GOG that fall into that category.

Doom, Quake, Baldur's Gate RPGs, System Shock ... pretty much any 2D point-and-click game. Any older games that run in Dosbox - Descent, Original Xcom, Tomb Raider 1 ... Ultima 7 ...

I mean, if you want a game that will really suck up time like a sponge, download and play Dwarf Fortress for free. Just make sure you let your family know they might not see you for a couple of months. That Rimworld thing on here looks like it's kind of similar to that too.

I'm going to recommend Duskers. Roguelike in space where you control drones with command lines (is ALL keyboard here so great for laptops) and explore derelict ships to get resources and try to survive and MAYBE discover why you're the only one left alive in space.

That laptop isn't so bad, you could probably even run Witcher 3 on it at low res and low detail and still get 20-30fps!

I think the 4GB RAM is something I'd recommend you upgrade if you wanted to try that tho' - 8 would work a lot better...


That aside, I think almost every RPG on GOG would run on your laptop okay; NWN and NWN2 would run fine for sure as would the Divinity games...

Not too hardware-demanding + good game + "endless": this is the answer you're looking for.

Some games that will probably run on that laptop that I would recommend:

-Settlers 2: 10th year edition
-Sim City 2000
-Dune 2000
-Theme Hospital

If that's too much on the old side, maybe something like Civilization 4 or Warcraft III?

Another one is Warzone 2100. Pretty lightweight, and is under active development by the community. Totally free I believe.

Another excellent "eternal" game is Banished btw. Really good, with a great modding scene as well. It doesn't have combat, though, if that is something you like with RimWorld (which itself it a great game).

Alpha Centauri + Alien Crossfire.
also, second Dwarf Fortress. with enough imagination it's totally endless.

tales of maj'eyal is a great roguelike with tons of content for you to discover and unlock. it's amazing and available here! there's a new update coming soon so it's a good time to pick up the game again.

Fallout 1 & 2: guaranteed to run in 30 year old hardware and those still hold the magic they were born with.

SteamWorld Dig 1 and maybe the second part too.

Risen 1 is a good game and long game about 40 hours or more depends if you like to explore etc. and it should run on your laptop.
Also if you like strategy games check empire earth and cossacks
