Seems after 22 years my hearing is still ok, mainly because I haven't played this game or cast this spell in ages. There was a mod for it on the vault, but there's no link.

AI tells you to find the spell, lower the DB level with Audacity and stick it in the overide folder. Yeah sure. It suggest the spell is "sp_lingering_chillingtentacles" located in the install/data/sound directory.

Problem is I can only find "sp_chillingtentacles" in there. Has anyone managed this?. Either that or with all of the glitches this game released with, it's almost like it needs a re-release that fixes everything...

Remember: (Chat) GenAI is just a text-generator: it doesn't know what you asked, or what text it output. Sometimes that text will be accurate, sometimes it won't. It's not a reliable source.

Now, if I understand you correctly, the audio for the spell in question is too loud? (I haven't played Warlock, so I don't know it myself.) If so, then in principle the idea of lowering the volume of the audio is--*ahem*--sound.

As to the file-name... well, why not just play the sound an find out...? If it's the right one, reduce its volume and continue. If it's not the right one, keep looking for other candidate sound-files.

Thanks for the reply (still don't know why I can't upvote and it's greyed out). So as suggested the file is in there. For anyone interested, go to your installation directory e.g.:

C > GOG Games > NWN2 Complete > Data > Sounds(compressed file) > Sounds > and then the sound files should be listed alphabetically.

Find: 'sfx_linger_ChilingTentacles'
Yes they spelled it 'chili' so you have to spelled it teh same.

So copy that file onto the desktop or something (always worth keeping a backup) and replace it with a suitable file that wont deafen you over the course of the game. 'sfx_linger_blades' works well for me. And put it right back in the same location.

The mod: Warlock Reworked is worth playing for me although parts of it don't work. And this spell is basically the I win spell for me. I even neutered a certain skull headed boss with it.

Ah, I'm glad that you got it working! And thank you for posting your method for others to follow! ^_^ "Chili Tentacles" sounds like a very different spell! XD
