Dracula 3 - The Path of the Dragon

Come for Dracula, Stay for the Mystery

I went into this game expecting another decent old-school adventure. What I got was, in my opinion, by far the best entry of the first three games. Yes, the game is clunky by modern standards. Some puzzles are brutally difficult and occasionally a little too obscure. But beyond that lies a game made with obvious care, professionalism, and genuine ambition. The investigation is fascinating from beginning to end. Every new clue, document, and conversation pulled me deeper into the mystery. The twists genuinely surprised me more than once, and I found myself constantly wanting to know what was really going on. What impressed me most, however, were the writing and the world-building. The characters aren't flashy, but they feel like real people shaped by their time and circumstances. Even relatively minor characters have personality and purpose. The historical setting isn't just decoration—it enriches the mystery and makes the world feel authentic. It is light years better than the first two games, with which it does not share their world or story. If you enjoy slow-burn investigative adventures with strong atmosphere, memorable writing, and don't mind some old-school adventure game rough edges, this is an easy recommendation. For me, this was a hidden gem and a wonderful surprise.

Ys Origin

Fantastic title with axcellent game loop

An action-platformer with light RPG elements, built around a tight gameplay loop and extremely precise controls. The game’s 25 tower stages are played across three character routes, each using the same core controls but introducing unique mechanics and revealing different story details. Unfortunately, I encountered a controller quirk and solved it by using Xidi tool (by Samuel Grossman) after visiting a red-edit's page on "Ys Origin having issues with controllers". This is a prequel to the entire series, playing the events that solified the rest of the series' overarching plot. It is a -mostly- action (beat-em-up) game with -some- platforing and -minor but strong- RPG elements. The game is a professionaly made experience, with emphasis on its many little details. Localization is stellar (no censoring whatsoever) and I feel like it retains the japanese script's essence. Graphics wise it has aged a bit but not where it matters : aesthetics are spot on and consistent throughout the game's 3 iterations and various details here and there will keep your interest. You know you are at an important junction when an animated cutscene displays. Everything has a visual and audio impact. Audio is stellar. There is minimal voice acting but everything else has audio oomph. Music is excellent, though a biut repetitive, sets the mood properly and ties everything together. You have 3 protagonists and going from top to bottom one, you view and act the same story from each character's perspective with small but important diffrences. However, the overall plot, setting, stages and Bosses are the exact same and each character delves deeper on different aspects and brings to light different plot's nunances, details and secrets. The game is conviniently split into the various 25 levels of the Tower you are always exploring. Each level is its own stage, sporting various and different enemies and traversal hazards. Enemiy variance is medium - every stage has new enemies (some previous) and you will fight through all of them during all the characters' stories, albeit with different approach with each. Bosses are unique but more than half of them are the same for all protagonists. Where the game shines brilliantly is its game loop and controls. Everything is *tight* and responsive to the millisecond, following the player's inputs precisely. It is very easy to blend instinct, skill and memory when traversing through the stages and beating up the enemies and bosses. Each character plays and feels differently and the enemies and bosses support that, with varying difficulty and nuance for each protagonist. Again, the story, plot, script and dialogues, even the cinematography, is first rate and showcases the professionalism and passion of the Falcom's Ys team, as well as the respect towards their players. The major plot revelation comes during the third character’s storyline and is absolutely worth the wait, even if slightly foreshadowed. Completing all routes leaves virtually no important thread unresolved.

Dracula - The Resurrection

Old school game, aged okay-ish

Very well-made game. The in-game graphics look great even now. The character design is... memorable, to say the least. The inn keeper is a face to remember, for sure., and Dracula's wives are yummy The voice acting is professional and very clear, unique for every character. Dialogues are also clean. Sound design is brilliant. Absolutely worth playing with heasphones !

Black Mirror

Not as good as the old trilogy.

Just finished the game, on one sitting. Never playing it again. The graphical assets and the aesthetic are decent. I had artifacts and clippings all the time and even some frame drops. Gaming at 1440p was not fulfilling, I took it down to 1080p after a bit as it's very unoptimized graphically. Sound is alright : Voice acting is superb, ambient sounds are decent, sound effects are repetitive, kind of loud and generally tiresome after a while. UI is cumbersome. It gets the job done but that's just about it. It is slow and unintuitive. Movement throughout is a chore. There are constantly invisible barriers that stop your momentum immediately and slow you to a crawl. This is too constraining and limits the experience significantly. Hotspots are visible and interactable based on proximity and viewing and that mechanic is implemented in an extremely tedious way. It lowered my experience significantly. Animation is... bad. Seriously, apart from walking everything else ( like moving limbs and lips) is implemented in a very rushed and unpolished way. The game is based on animation in order to progress its cutscenes. I had a lot of freezes when automatic animations were obstructed by the game's own environment and could not complete and character could not be where the coded needed it to be in order to keep executing. Very sad, cheap and completely frustrating when I had to reload several times due in order to get out of it. At one point, simply talking to your companion while they are kneeling in the lakeshore deadlocks you into freezing. Overarching story is pretty decent but game feels rather short for it. It could easily be double its size. Plot is alright and dialogue lines are mostly very well made with some very notable drops here and there. The whole game felt like it was rushed but by using professionals. Extremely unpolished in pretty much everything, it provided me with a very low quality gameplay experience reminiscent of 2000s games.
