It's... acceptable.
It's even more ambitious than the previous game, with bigger map, more mechanics newer graphics... However for every good or nice thing to say about the game there is a "but"; be it the clunkiness, lost features or design choices that I'm not exactly on board with or plain failed implementation of a good idea.
Despite the game seemingly doing what it could to make me dislike it (my initial reaction was to give it a 2), it grew on me. That or I got desensitised to the worse parts and learned to enjoy the nicer moments.
In the end, I'm giving it a 3: it's passable, but I didn't particularly enjoy it. I'm aware that there are many mods that may improve the feel of the game... But I'm not reviewing them, and I'm somewhat sceptical of how much could have the mods changed. Maybe if I had gone for a modded playthrough from the start, I'd have had more fun...
[OLD REVIEW]:
I tried, I really tried.
But the first 15minutes felt like they threw away most of the things that made Gothic 2 great in pursuit of a mirage of better and bigger tech.
There's a few nice things, like alternative arrow types, dual wielding actual aiming with the bow.
Few neat ideas, like the more action combat or and town guards questioning the new arrival after stuff gets stolen... That were hampered by the implementation.
I'll keep on playing to check out if it improves somewhat later on... but I have my doubts, since I've apparently been at it 10h already... and It is not looking good.
