Staxel CE is *NOT* included for GOG.
I hate to say it, but if you really want this get it on Steam.
Two issues:
There is no CE, which is the later branch with a few more recent updates, and the one that actually works, at the cost of losing mod support...
Which brings me to the second issue. The mods are all locked to Steam, and with the terrible inventory and storage system you really do need them, so not much point in using the buggier older client on GOG when you don;t get the only thing it does better.
I don't care that it has seemingly been abandoned, with plenty of QoL issues needing to be addressed and in need of a LOT of polish, but the lack of the updated working client here is a straight "NO!" for me. The Staxel version is on parity with Steam, but there is no StaxelCE folder in it, which is the alternative working client with cross platform support and MUCH better performance.. Not to mention the lack of five Microsoft redistrubtable installers needed to even try to launch the main client.
I fiddled for over an hour trying to get this janky mess of Microslop redistibutables to run, while the CE verion on Steam launches perfect through both Proton and via the native Linux executable.
I'm normally not one to complain if I have issues with Linux, I'm not running the "official" supported OS, it's generally my place to research that things work and how to get them playing before buying a "Windows" title.
The lack of CE here which is part of the Steam version and the only thing to get *any* updates for this "Early Access" game half a decade makes this broken when it runs perfectly on Linux (And CE is DRM-Free via Steam, as an extra folder in your install directory) elsewhere.
I've only refunded one game in over a decade here, and I later bought it again when the devs decided to push the years late patch from Steam, but this one is getting the dubious honor of being number two on that list.
Add the CE version and I'll grab it again, and slap this bad review down, but until then I'm putting in for my money back because even on sale this isn't worth it while it's missing that.
