Despair: Blood Curse

Only cursed would be he buyin full price

It is nowhere near as sexy as it could be, its weapons are not as impactfull as they need be (in sounds AND fe recoil), its generaly not well dessighned. Yes there are moments things do click but conjuring a key from ball of gold and some potent acid makes no sense (black powder is nice puzzle tho i approve that one makes perfect sense). There are few moments where map dessighn and or puzzles do click tho bought out by generaly rushed feeling and cheep or rookie dessighns elsewhere. there are sexier games in genre and better games in genre on this platform. unless literarly free this game needs long time in development to flesh out its basics. SOME areas (first of two bosses) literarly look unfinished. some positives that i have not mentioned are offcourse that headshots are a thing, assocated to black powder the cannon shot i would appretiate more clear indication or hint that tehre is something behind wall or even having to move the cannon. More varried story progression than letters, more interesting dynamic with sister or at least flashing out the relationship. More impactfull moments and more enviromental flavour text (the dining hall feast has no flavour text at all but the worker's one dose? why? piano gets one but violin dosent? say something about all those paintings even just wiki descriptions will suffice TRY to make the world feel like world not like a means to an end) + some sexy elements always welcome black powder puzzle handfull of mapping choices - atrocious first key recipie - golden ball + 2 liquids = keay ?! what? general mapping in vast majority of areas, conssiderable rethreading of same ground (and kinda ssociated no indicator to area change doors) for game of this lenght (done it in under 2 hours. price, content, combat (sounds, feel), lack of propper lore, arbitrary flavour text placements on some objects but not others of same type, too shot, too lacking in emotion, unearned twist at the end, feels too empty in general.

THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD: Remake

i wish we'd get the original two instead

Look the charm of the first two house of the dead games was in the amazingly gruesome and grimy engine in conjunction wtih legitimatley hillarious voice actor performance, as if the people never spoken English before in their lives. which i guess they didnt? i mean it is from Japan so you know could be. This REMAKE tries to correct mistakes overkill did with its attempt at playing into the jokes and tries to follow original as much as it can but than also overpolishes everything gives actual english speaking voice actors the dubbing and there you go you've lost every single reason for anyone to play the game ever. the joy of semi-coherent text delivered with gusto of passionate developer is gone, the charm of the world has been polished to a sheen and lacks that bit of dirt... and yes its on unity of all things. not that good things cant be on unity but i dont think i've seen single game on it that'd demosntrate the charismatic dirt i'd call it of THOTD and its sequel (as well as first typing of the dead which technicaly is THOTD2). ironicaly remake's biggest weakness is the polish given to it from people who likely cared. *sigh* + looks fine, follows original closely - looks too good sounds too profesional completly looses the spirit of the house of the dead certain ambiance is completly missing - dosent feel liek dream or nigthmare in this incarnation

Beyond a Steel Sky

an avarage relaxed dysthopic revolt

game has a ot to say about politics but falls into its own trap. tehre are many points where solutions feel clever but it also tends to feel excessively limiting at most times, single solution puzzles are kinda annoying even tho there are some processes that would permit more varietty, its main mechanic being defactro a hacking tool to swap around bits and pieces of code has a lot of creative potential even with the parts showcased, sadly more offten than not some pieces can not be moved leading to frustrating shoveling around of things in that hacking interface. Do not get me wrong game dose have style and somewhat decent fidelity but it dose lean too heavily on its self certainty and its thesis on what makes dictatorship is one written by someone who either enver did struggle or has since forgotten. i do agree with some points of both Joey the savior's ideology and Foster's ideology but neither is even remotly doable. so if you do make it to end you might get mildly upset as well. Generaly speaking the hint system and charakters are however game's strenght but not always, and more interesting charakters are limited (a butler of a poet droid being my favourite). Additionaly i disaprove of overliance on "save the children" cliché even tho yes it is main driving force for foster its presence is too frequent. cautious recommandation for those interested in third person adventure games with light stakes and big ideas. + charakters, locales, some inventive thinking on occasion, hint system (yes i do be dumb) - stilted single solution puzzles feel less like player overcoming and more like player on a leash, overfocus on children, ultimate conclusion's philosophy is debatable for and against both pro and antagonist, panfully limiting main tool especialy towards the end.

Blades of Time

Simpler action fighting game

Passible story, passible combat, passible graphics, passible systems, good level dessighn, good sexyness. And yet i would not nescesarily recommaand it universaly. biggest thing the game has built itself around (mssive impact strikes, nd healing both use same pool) are functionaly combos but not in specific moves following each other its more like continued hitting of enemies within time frame. there are few treasholds that allow player to unleash increasingly devastating attacks when certain amounts of hits were done and if bar fills fully plyer gets 1 healing "potion". Which is sound way of ding it offcourse but dose to some extent limit approach that'd rely solely on cannonade of long range and or melee. There is also sort of time mechanic but not like in Sands of time trilogy, it is more of a making clone or echo/shadow of player charakter, you have a pool that has rewind and just play game as you will, record what charakter is doing and than rewind to have a go at another or evne same way of doing things whilst previous version remains for duration of the rewind. the usual denial of attack enemies also appear (both shielded an somehow magicaly shielded, even one with plot armour) and only for a brief period of time dose protagonist get to have power to just rip through the barriers the three types of enemies mentioend posses.after ascention to overpowered being and before final fight. Storywise there are these junctions where it LOOKS like player can pick a path (violate code of a group to pursue helping a friend) but those are never choices (alternative to doing that pursuit is no progress). which is always urking me in bad way. I reckon thsi game has severe case of consolaitus. Realy best analogue is Devil May Cry but Blades of Time are far less polished and its mosre unique featuers are bith clumsy. + decent fun varietty of abilities and enviromental puzzles impressive idea done decently sexy - no choices, over reliance upon its systems,

POSTAL: Classic and Uncut

Classic postal with in all of its skin i

some changes were made to the game, like removing school after certain catastrophe made by horrible people in horrible nation with horrible gun laws.... but its all back in here i think. if you approach this as game of edgy subtle satire with not so subtle overt criticism on weapon control you could have fun with it. some thigns re bit rough but the heavy dark atmospheric settings works for me very much, compared to jovial hummor of 2 and 4 this is very.... unsettlign dark hummour, almost pitch black hence i assume the school was there in the first place. if you can tolerate brutal level of difficulity, somewhat questionable controls on PC (it expects mouse + kb but somehow can be played just KB if you realy want to), relatively simillar arsenal to its sequel dose offer generaly good diverse combat approach angles and there is enough challange to deal with to be entertaining yet not too haairpullingly frustrating. a lot of the unfairness i percieve is to do with wild ismoetric perspective, sometimes flipping to different angles to mess with you. Hardest level, i think, is the bridge where its nearly top down. bt with effort and time you can overcome. game itself is rather fun.

Severed Steel

Lightning speed, open field, go have fun

welp this wont be my usual yammerings on positive and negative i unabashedly love this game and its not so sutle homages to superhot, syndicate (the FPS had exactly ONE good moment and its in severed steel so play steel not ea games), quake, cruelty squad, and such. I can not judge it objectively because i adore it far too much. Yes yes it uses wallrunning and i hate that but the gunplay is rock solid leading to gamelay being excilirating, all self feeding loop of awesome. there are even limited brekable walls and floors ffs!! who needs to have a way when you can MAKE one! soudtrack is not on par with AAA games but thats fair, noone can do it all and again the main part of the game is absolute perfection to MY eyes so i will not sweat over passable but unremarkable music. you probably should read some negative reviews this game is not perfect nothing is but i can recommand it for i thorrowly enjoy it.

Commandos - Behind Enemy Lines

ruthless action tactics - the classics

this is one of those games that if you were around for its hayday you absolutley remember it being incredibly popular nigh on omnipresent. But tooday's generation dose not seem to know of. I generaly thought of it as slow planning maticulous but you absolutley can bumrush the nacis and make mince meat out of their defences if you know what you are doing (clearly i dont). Admitidley usualy mission solutions tend to be very narrowly plotted so rarely many drasticaly wild solution tho i am sure speedrunners found ways. i can not recommand it for everyne but if yu are interested in heart pounding thrill with tactical bent in real time playstyle (you know unlike X-com series) it MIGHT be righ up your alley, takes a lot of patience to grasp but is very accessable once you get the shortcuts for bag items, ithout that it realy is far too hard to do .) + style atmosphere challange gets you thinking in somewhat compelling manner - challange (yep its in both because its BS soemtimes) narrow solution conditions pathfinding (yeah yeah staple of 90s games) maddening compatibility mess solved by adding single m to the game executable. RIDICULOUS TL:DR if you know you probably already have it, if you dont than do you want 90s tactical isometric game in your life? its got plenty germs to germinate and to kill and will force you to think.

Shadows: Awakening

salute to roleplaying games of 90s

Book the name is so forgettable that even when i AM intending to play it i have troubble finding it in my library... its a sin against creativity. However it dose decieve by the label, what is hiding within the game is solid, more simple (as in streamlined) itteration on throne of darkness formula - that is to say classical diablo type game that had many interesting ideas of its own. Story itself is pretty fun and engaging, albeit yet another "you lost your memory" fare *shrugs* no need to reinvent the wheel just make it spin well thats enough for me, And the main star is, as it ought to be, the conbat you have three basic categories of companions you can "tag" into the play at almost any time (barring when your charakter it stunned or otherwise incapacitated) alowing you to have active party of four with some alternative builds (at one point you get a hunter, another you get litearly golem - a tank) so there is enough varietty and YES controll per charakter (you level ALL charakters at the same time via shared exp pool but allocate points and skills individualy each time they become avalable). This in itself offers great dynamic playstyle and caters to my personal preference to have ranged, DPS and tank along with special utility (the main charakter being demon who traverses into ghost real) which i turned into melee DPS for that side of things. Spirit realm bleeding into real world is used as a gimmick so you do have to often switch between the main charakter and more physical ones, i do like this strangley as it is rewarded by loot or story when you do go on exploring and or switching frequently. The side quets can span across maps and i pressume acts so its bit confussing in that manner, and some puzzles (yes game has puzzles) are bit annoying sometimes. - the name, sometmes quests go across areas, gimmicky bossfitght + the combat, the atmosphere, the concept, interplay between charakters, dialogue, story

Signal Ops

good example of well done focued dessign

First off: this is not realy a first person shooter, it is far more a stealth game with on the feet planning. I also would not want to coapre it to SWAT 4 because it is far less action oriented, this particular game is more like a puzzle with possitioning and tactical abilities of each agent being the focus. But realy parallers are not doing it justice. once deployed into the field your control over the agents is very direct if fragmented across two views (you can swap primary and secondary at your liesure but ... its fine as is). Even first propper mission was rather steep learning curve from tutorial but it did convey how deep can things get alternative paths, strange access alleways, tho no jumping allowed or mantling over things. Music i find rather bland and forgettable and voices could be better but tahts nitpicking the most important thing is that the game itself plays incredibly well and YOU shoudl try it too. - rather steep learning curve even if you do tutorials, some might be offput by graphics but its fine when you get used to it, music and soung in general whislt passable is not that great, + strong identity (thanks to graphics and hummour), incredibly solid gameplay idea executed well, fairly original if not wholy unique strategic infiltration balance that did capture my interest TL;DR: not an action game but more a tactical stealth (particularly sensitive to positioning your unitse so as to cover one another), retro style graphics, decent hummour, forgetable sound and music. Recommanded for those who want to take things slow and think about their actions before they execute them.

Soldier of Fortune: Platinum Edition

Great shooting, Dumbest story

this has nothing to do with more grounded military shooters of 2'000s (thank you operation flashpoint for spawning that filth) this is just quake 2 with contemporary looks and ghoul system (disection of enemies by where they are hit / shot/ slashed). It is best being thought of as an action movie type deal - it makes no sense but thats its strenght. Sure tehre are drawbacks, some more modern audiences might dislike the graphics, i did get caught few times by strange level dessign choices but the most important thing: the gunplay is absolutley fantastic. If your tolerance for shooters of mid 90s is high raven is always good bet to satisfy (well was, than) . + Gunplay, + Ghoul + general action feel of movement and firefights - absolutley ridiculously stupid story - archaic by modern standards map design - some minute bugs (doors, edges of surfaces) - horrifyingly jingoistic (TL;DR) should you get it? fk yea! gun is good! story is bad
