Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Good game, but QTE fest, weak plot

This is a good game but nowhere as good as it is hyped. QTE is intrinsically bad game design and must be avoided by any respectable game dev. So the game looses one star for that. It would have been still great if the plot was solid but it is not. The game starts really strong, and is quite impressive until the second act, where, avoiding spoilers, the game stops being logical and characters behave like they have brain damage. Verso as a playable character is total nonsense considering his background. Act 3 is even worse. Somehow now we have open world, which we no longer need at all. Characters still behaving illogically, and the remaining content is no longer mysterious, eliminating game's initial charm. Music is very good, there are several catchy songs, but not a masterpice like many like to believe. Unless you're a big fan of French chanson, there are lots of games with more enjoyable music. Since the game is classified as RPG there are a lot of things to be desired. This game has no meaingful player choices. The world is not interactive. Quests are mostly fetch/kill quests with no nuances. All dialogues are on rails. It provides this game no replayability value. The "skills" mechanic is interesting and provides a decent viriability to builds. It could have been better if there was no need for obligatory "unlocking" of the skill for lumina points. There is no problem of unlocking anything by just defeating random trash mobs few times but it's getting tedious. Some of the minigames are more annoying than entertaining. Fortunately, they are optional, thus, they don't matter, but they don't add value either. Big plus of this game that it's light on social propaganda (it's still there but subtle) that plagues many games.
