The Excavation of Hob's Barrow

Surprisingly enjoyable to me

Gog notified me through an email about this game and it intrigued me. I've always liked point and click games like Sanitarium so I decided to give this one a try. If you enjoy folk horror mixed with Gnostic themes and a splash of Lovecraftian cosmic horror with a retro art style then this is the game for you. Some people complain about the ending because there are no multiple endings but for a folk horror/Lovecraftian cosmic horror game the ending just made sense to me. The puzzles increase in dificulty as the game progressed. There were only two times that I had to look up a solution to a puzzle, mainly the elder flowers and the Greek letters, being a student of Greek I think the Greek letter puzzle caused me to think to hard about it as I know Greek so I was trying to find a word but I couldn't think of one that worked. It was stupidly easy though when I looked up the solution. I also enjoyed the Gnostic themes as I have studied Gnostic writings (for scholarly interest not that I believe in that system) and recognized some of the words and symbols used in the game. I also like retro style games so the pixalated art work did not bother me and there were times that I was actually glad for it because a couple of the images would have been disgusting to me if they were more clear images. I do have some negative feedback on this game but it is minor and did not prevent me from enjoying it. The achievement system I thought was silly because I didn't really achive anything it was more like a progress marker. I thought the music scene went on a little too long but I was afraid I would miss something if I skipped it as they give you that option too. I also would have liked the cursor to do something when I'm trying to find stuff to indicate that something could be interacted with. They give you the option to push a button to see all the interactables at once but I would have preferred the other way so that it gives me a chance to think it out. Try it it is good

Sanitarium

Love this game!

I got this when it first came out when I was a teenager. I've been obsessed with it ever since. The story is amazing. If you like point and click exploration type games give this one a shot.
