America Rising 2 - Legacy of the Enclave

Now, Even BETTER...

Well, I've only just started; I'm not even certain of all the changes this mod brings. But it IS now compatible, and plays great and looks awesome in this version: I may never play vanilla again (though that's also installed on one of my other machines here. Lol)! So, if you like Fallout 4 itself, for sure this is great for the price; and further-in, I may find, even if it were not for free: Even what begins like the original looks and plays BETTER than that; so I am looking forward to the rest as I go along... Combat also seems to have been tweaked: Though still familiar, VATS works better and faster now; almost like an fps. This game looks great, plays great; NO complaints! Thanks to the mod authors and GOG for this! :-)

Occupy Mars: The Game

An ENJOYABLE Challenge

First, this may be a 'spoiler'; but I did have to watch a video to begin this game, was wondering how to begin it, as I noticed I did not have many things I needed for basic wells, buildings, and things. So I did some other things instead, and even got an old rover running first, that I thought out myself before I saw the video. But the capsule you are in has most of the inventory a player needs to begin with, in compartments overhead, that I later learned online. And, 'points' for me, that I learned some of what comes later, because I didn't know this; and learned how to salvage things myself, as a player has to do later: So I started off behind, but am now a bit ahead I think; FUN GAME! And this is for 'Sandbox' mode, I was playing, that even that video started with later, which may be different in other modes for the game. It's considered a more 'technical' simulation and management game, than others of it's kind, by most reviewers; some aspects of Kerbal and of Genesis Alpha One I noticed in this way: so, if this is a good thing for you, you should find it a blast to play as I did! I kept going until I had working driving vehicles, a well, workshop, some solar panels erected, places for plants set up. I still have to learn how to actually plant and grow things, and more to do with powering everything and producing oxygen, I still have only from bottles sent with meI I think this shows I am 'Immersed' in this! Lol... Finally, this game is lightweight, should run on anything, and looks and plays very well. Like most of these, this needs a mouse and keyboard for things to be done best, back and forth for some inventory and actions; but a gamepad I found best for the driving: backing up with a trailer/loader, for instance, that I am still learning. But I also found, if you use the jackhammer to break things into tiny pieces, you don't have to load them, and can just stash them in inventory when done. I have heard others describe favorite games like this as 'like a part-time' job -- I still have trouble with some of those even famous titles; before I found more things in the capsule, this one was close to that, but is now more FUN, as I like a game to be: If I want a job, I get a job I receive payment for; this is a game I already paid for, and want only recreation and fun with it. This game IS fun, and even a bit more forgiving than some other good ones like it. I also play everything on easy skill to begin with, I mention, as again, I play for FUN: I Recommend this to Others who also want an ENJOYABLE challenge! :-)

Call of the Void

A 'Quake 2 Remastered PACK'!

Well, for FREE I downloaded this, though not having played 'Call Of The Machine' says it is a continuation of; then found Quake 2 remastered, Quake2x64, or something, and also the 'Machine' prequel is included with install: So if you like Quake 2, get THIS one, and no worries for anything Quake 2 for awhile... I played a bit of the title, but I also made it further into Quake 2 than awhile, as I mostly played that online, in 'deathmatch' years ago. Lol. And Quake 3 also lacked real single-player missions, as mentioned here, so this is it for THAT too when I get to it... Not certain of newer setups; but plays great at 2k, and it will be my default Quake 2 to install, for all GOG has included in a single offline installer; is 4gb, twice what it says here: A GREAT deal for Quake 2 fans! :-)

Iron Sky: Invasion UHD Commander Edition

Hilarious, and a Great GAME Too!

Better than I had thought. I had this previously, only because I like the movie: scifi that is a satire of everything and everyone in it, including this part of the woods (USA), and regarding politics, warmongering, etc: Humorous, in a world too serious and violent; so, I loved the movie, but actually am playing the game now too, and may be the best movie-game ever made. It follows the story more directly than most, plays well and looks good; also not so difficult, and is fun to just jump in and play as a simulator. Others have noted, is rather a simple space fighter simulation, and much appreciated for a good time, away from more complicated ones I also enjoy: Think 'arcade space sim'; and maybe even those not familiar with the movie might want to have this as well for this reason! It runs fine on my middle-end 2k display setup, Intel i5, Win 10, NV4gb, 16gb mem. Also favors mouse and keyboard play, as some may want to know, and as I usually prefer joy and gamepad; but response and performance are excellent. Game is also much like the original, but I wanted a newer copy and version -- if anyone else is also interested, this version IS a good update. I believe I also mentioned this on the 'Dreamlist' here in it's original form; and here it is like NEW again, and with the DLCs I also had: THANKS GOG; GREAT Game! :-)

Dishonored - Definitive Edition

Big Game, Big FUN!

First, it is one of those 'big' games of the era; I mean, you do not feel 3 feet tall while not crouching, and things are also, well, BIGGER than modern titles, and like some other few I have played but usually don't like so much. But, in this, combat even with a sword is fluid and fun enough to learn to get good, and not too tough to begin with; and can save game anytime: as some Others said here, I think I might actually finish THIS game. Lol. The story is also different, as the name suggests; you begin 'dishonored', then trying to get your good name and position back in the world. I do not know how it turns out, again, as I am still playing it; but you were supposed to be pretty heroic before this, and helps that again the combat system favors this: Usually I opt for the firearms; in this it is more fun with the sword I usually suck at. Lol. You also carry both and more; so whatever you like you can use. I also hate stealth, yet play both ways in this, and can be enjoyed stealthy or aggressive as you like... This could be lengthy to detail; but the inventory, upgrades, progression of skills and graphics and all, may be the Best I have EVER seen. Not too many games I know of either with one good jump move and some casual button mashing, a whole crowd of baddies wiped out. I mean, 'casual' in that the response with a gamepad (optional) is so excellent; I usually also hate button-mashing, but is fluid and fun in this one: GET this GAME! This also runs well on a 2k, Win 10/11, with 16gb mem and a 4 gb older AMD or Nvidia installed. There are also at least one great qol mod that I tried, but frankly it was great already without it -- most of these bring any game up to 4k too, so maybe Others will see a difference I did not notice: But, ENJOY! I am! :-)

Batman: Arkham City - Game of the Year Edition

'Best In Class'

I haven't noticed any real problem, now fairly into this game...my best experience yet with the franchise. It even runs better; very smoothly in all the main character's actions and combat, fluid and console-like, running on my middle-grade 2k Windows system. The more open world of Arkham City also I think makes it more playable for role-players, strategists, and other genre fans than of Arkham Batman. One can also usually retreat, grapple over distance, and escape, which is a strategy, and eventually beat the quest. Many other side-quests and challenges can also be done, even during a mission; breaking off for a new challenge or training prevents monotony until ready to go back to a main quest. Only, typical of some menus of the time, Arkham City's also flawed, and not so clear -- just be careful of hitting anything saying 'New', that could take you right out of the game into a Challenge or something you only wanted to read about, not play yet. Batman does not know how to read I guess? lol. At least nothing interesting to read...no notes or logs (but in the menu, a bio and stuff like that for everyone), or looting, or saving manually or quick -- but a great ride if you like the kind of thing typical of superhero games. I tolerate and I'm enjoying it better than usual in this; I also found the combat system more forgiving in this one than in others of the series I played... For veteran's of the series, I would say imho, a must-buy -- for those unfamiliar, I would say also a must-buy for wanting to try one you can play and enjoy more than the others in the series. So much so, I would say it's not a good example of the Others: or get real good at this one first, before trying any of those! lol. For what it is, not like what I usually play, I give it the highest rating of the series, except 'Knight' which I've never played... Great to see this series here too, for us, and the many fans who do like the system it uses: THIS one even gets MY Approval! Lol. THANKS GOG! :-)

Kerbal Space Program

Seems Overrated, But Great On Sale...

First, this is one of those 'online-community based' games, I didn't realize, and I usually avoid. But this is (was) one of the better ones of it's kind. As noted here by others, is over 14 years old, changed hands since then, not for the better I agree. The original website is also non-functional, except for the forums; but there is still much support outside this though, and mods still offered and developed. You may need these, not to modify anything, but to have anything -- some parts were apparently supposed to be also downloaded later, purchased or given (not unusual for these kind of software or games) by the original developer and community then. It does have the bare-bones to get started and have fun; it IS fun -- reminded me of offline 'Erector' sets of old; build your own thing, and make it work! Finally, is educational as much as entertaining; I think now the only educational game I own, and actually is an area of interest of mine, though just for fun these days. It also runs very well on the Unity Engine; better than most of theirs actually. It also has some drawbacks of this: loading means going into a folder top right on build menu; saving means like Unity (that is an ironic name for an unharmonious engine), "wherever I want to save this for you!" You will need that folder-view to find YOUR save to load. Lol... Only other final word is this runs fine on 2k middle-ware I own; can not verify higher systems -- and there is an almost encyclopedia, and many settings it is good to learn. But even learning IS fun on this, and the explosions are hilarious. Lol... Has a sense of humor, and is best for those who also have one: 3 stars; like all these kinds of games, mostly because it is old now and no longer officially supported online. GREAT on sale! THANKS for this here, GOG :-)

Batman™: Arkham Origins

DIE Immediately!

Ok, granted, some like harder games than me; some also like the Arkham series combat system, I think for this reason. But this one is the worst ever for anyone who are more a fan of Batman than Arkham, or it's system. The only one I have not tried is 'Knight', the Batmobile one, because I'm not looking for a driving-game Batman; but of all the others this is the most ridiculous from the start, against 'Crok', or whoever: will just DIE immediately, and more than once. I never beat him, and just stopped trying so I wouldn't break my perfectly good gamepad. I am not a fan of this series, so ignore me if you're fine with it -- the art's great, atmosphere is cool, development rocks, only the gameplay is not my style; so maybe others should be warned who are not familiar... To be fair, I know of no Batman game that is realistic to the character and IS as playable as he is to read or watch on other media: Prepare to be Decimated! Lol... This game does run VERY well on Win 10/11, i5, 16gb, with nvidia 1050 4gb graphics here: one star is for my opinion of the combat system, not the game itself!

Citadel Remonstered

Just PLAY It...

For one thing, this is free... No panache; it reminds me of it's era and some other Interesting misses back then: Catacombs meets Depth Dwellers, but this contols better than them, from that time, and I find fun to just play without some jaded 'I was born in 2004' mentality. Lol... Also, I often consider the Amiga games and era, but emulators often do not function so well, so I do not often (maybe once, I think) go with that approach: more like this would be nice; and I encourage it: THANKS GOG! Finally, to be more technical; I only had the mouse-spin issue happen once, saved before this and I 'died'. And, Heh, QUICKSAVES; Remember THOSE, folks? However, one has to 'F9' to load from anywhere in-game, even after shutting down and playing later but aren't in the 'load' menu. And the game has the most pixelated intro and cutscenes (accessed separately to watch) I ever saw, even for it's era: ENJOY the 'Nostalgia' -- then Thank GOD for Better present-day graphics! Lol... Running fine on mid-range Win10, Nvidia 2k, here. A bit more refinement of some things, a maybe small patch later, would be nice; but a GREAT OLD game! :-)

Way of the Hunter - Free UTV DLC

WHERE?

I bought this with the game, and no UTV but to buy in game. And, really, all of these DLCS (but some maps and for a 22 rifle with a weapons pack I bought) seem overdone and confusing generally. Beware of map packs too, if you already bought some separately here. Finally, they offer 'outfits' as a DLC; how about CAMOFLAGE as even a default in the game, to choose what to wear hunting? No big hunter am I, but every hunter I know is real particular about this; not what nice DRESS he is going to wear that day. Lol... However, back to this review: Unless I am missing something, there is no option for this UTV, in any color, with any install I've done; may be incompatible with certain versions, though I install them all from the same versions here. So, beats me, but this IS a PROBLEM. AMEN. :-(
