Return to Castle Wolfenstein

25 years to beat and 3 reviews to pass

You know GOG, if you want to block a review for having the NA word, ok, but at least have some message instead of waiting for the review to post like the internet is broken. I still have the original CD when I first bought the game. Unfortunately I got stuck pretty early on the first level. I couldn't find my way out. Silly? Yes. Many years later I bought the GOG version, retried the game and I think I moved to the second level where for some reason I stopped. 2026 and I decided to give the game another chance for my Twitch stream. I finally made it through and completed the game. I will start with the negative points: 1. Lack of compass or any meaningful map is more of an issue than one would think for a not huge levels game. I don't tend to have issues with losing my direction in games, but for some reason I do with this one. 2. The enemy even at the easier difficulty settings has what feels like aim hacks. Not always, but often enough and from distances and weapons that wouldn't make any sense. Can get pretty annoying. 3. If the enemy is looking towards your direction, it doesn't matter how far you are, they will see you. BS IMO. 4. Camera bobbing. 5. A TON of NA symbols, flags, etc. IF you have an issue with them, not the best to keep looking at them. But you can destroy all of them. I can't stand them, but I am glad they are in the game as they make sense. I just wish there were a few less of them on each level. 6. A couple of stealth forced portions, which I hate. But not that hard. Now the positive points: 1: Considering this is a 25 year old 3d game, it looks good. Sure you are not going to confuse it with a newer game, but it looks good. 2: The sound effects are a joy. 3: The story, linear and all, is fun and not really in the way at all. If you want a deep story, this is not the game for you. BUT, there are still plenty of cutscenes and text to read. 4: Shooting mechanics are good. Not as good as say the 2009 version (which should be here on GOG), but still so very good that improve the game on their own. 5: The character animations when get shot etc, beautiful! 6: Camera bobbing is either good or bad, depending on your taste. 7. Some boss fights, but not many. Good as I don't like boss fights as they tend to break "world physics". They are tough and you will need to use your brain and skills. Not for the noob of FPS games. Even at easier difficulty settings. I put it to positives, but you might want it to negatives. 8. Several enemy types, but nothing crazy. A handful of them are bullet sponges, but you learn to deal with them. You will need to use tactics and cover. You can't just outgun the enemy all the time. Overall, I enjoyed the game a lot. It's not my favourite FPS or anything, not even favourite Wolfenstein (2009 for me), but it is a solid game which is perfectly enjoyable a quarter of a century after its original release. 100% worth the asking price.

Stellaris: Nomads

AI generated

Exactly why is this info missing from this page when it is on Steam? with the 3.5 million DLCs for this game, Paradox should easily be able to afford the artists required, than use AI generated content. Disgusting behaviour.

F-19 Stealth Fighter

One huge advantage

over the sequel/remake of F117A. There are night missions and night means night. For a reason I do not know, the indeed overall better, more accurate, more beautiful even, F117, has the night missions taking place at dusk/dawn and not at pure night. Which is ABSURD for the plane in question and its missions. That enough for me is a good reason to prefer to play F-19 over F117A. If this is not an issue for you, then definitely play F117A (also available here on GOG) as it is the more refined game. Other than that, the only issue I have with both versions is the lack of proper campaigns. There are random generated missions which is great, but not a campaign even for the threatre you play your missions.

Hatred

Be careful

Back in 2015 I played the game to completion for my main (only at the time) YouTube channel, same as my name here. You know, "let's play" videos. It's a short game, few hours if you are an experienced gamer with action games. Don't let the camera angle fool you. The game is very dark and I am not talking about the brightness setting. It's very violent and very disturbing. Think of the Postal games, cranked to 11 and without the Postal humour. Well, most of it anyway. I enjoyed the game and I do believe that it is a good game. I would not recommend it for anyone who is too young or who is suffering from depression though. Yes even though I was (still am) suffering from deep depression while playing it. Because do as I say and not as I do and all that. Also I have to mention that the game was gorgeous. Is the game worth it? Absolutely. On sale of course, but even the full price here is low enough to make it worth while. Lot's of shooting, lot's of violence, not a happy game at all. I give it a 4/5 now, though I haven't played it in 11 years. I am not allowed to link to my let's play of it, so yeah, but hopefully this review gave you an idea.

Call of Juarez

Unfortunate crashes

Windows 11, GTX 1660 Super, on episode IV, the part where you have to deal with several groups of men who are camping during the night, the game keeps crushing. With no exact same action or location each time. Though it does happen if I am actually doing a movement of any sort. I don't know if it is like that for all or just me. I was streaming so after like 6 crashes or something I just stopped. Perhaps it is just me, or perhaps it's just that area of the game. Till that part the game was entertaining. It's not great, the shooting doesn't feel very satisfying. I think I enjoyed more the using the bow and arrow mechanic. Not a bad game, the 2.5 hours or so I played. Good voice acting, though there are some racist remarks (which make sense in the particulars) so if you are too sensitive know it. The game has some platforming which is necessary, which I hate. Not particularly difficult, I just don't like it as a principle. I think 3/5 is fair, as long as the game technical issues are avoidable or don't last very long. The graphics are also very good for 2006, though they do not even approach Crysis, which of course was released the following year. If you don't get the crashes, it's a fun ride.

Medieval: Total War™ - Collection

The Game in General

is good. I am not talking about the GOG version as I don't have it yet at the time of me typing this review. Hopefully I will have them all sooner or later as I wanted them very much on GOG as I am sick SICK of Steam. I am sure others will write better reviews, I will just say what I prefer from MTW2. The much simpler interactions on the strategy map. No having to play wack-a-mole with the various characters (merchants etc) which feel more like work than play. For this alone for me this is a more fun game to play than its sequel. Yes the production values were not as advanced, but it still looked great for when it was released and it has very good atmosphere. RTW series remain my favourite, but that doesn't take away from this game. 100% worth buying.

Dead Age

Fun horror light turn based game

I just finished playing this game for the first time on my Twitch channel. I completed my first playthrough as a "student". The first character of few available to unlock as starting characters. You have a camp/base where you give orders to your camp mates. The orders are called jobs and they are like "go hunt" or "build this" etc. This way you acquire resources, products that you can use or sell. The meat of the game is the turn based combat that takes place, if you want to, each day. You choose a path, a part of the world, and fight it out over 1 to 20 battles. At the end of them there is a boss fight and some cool loot. You can use the usual typical type of weapons, handguns, automatic rifles, shotguns, melee. All of them can be very useful. You can level up your characters who gain experience through combat or from doing jobs at the camp. The skills are combat or job focused and each time you level up you gain points you can distribute as you like. I do advice to try to specialize as that can make things easier for you. Having said that, you don't have to. The story is hit or miss. It means well, but some parts make no sense as a story or even grammatically. Still, it all adds to the game. It provides character. There are apparently multiple endings, mostly as at times you will have to make decisions like do mission A or do mission B. Other times you have to make decisions on events that take place outside of combat. It all actually fits very well, even if at times the only options you have are bad because of how silly they are. Still, they work. It was a fun experience to play through my first time, it took me 9 sessions of 1.5 to 2 hours each on average. At the end of the two good endings I got (no idea), I got some points to unlock future player characters and bonuses. While I don't plan on streaming the game again, I do plan on keeping it installed and play on my own till I unlock the rest, probably one more complete playthrough. Plus I want to see how the game unfolds with difference choices etc. For me the game is 100% worth its asking price, as long as you don't expect a AAA presentation. I was going to say quality too, but let's face it most AAA games nowdays are rarely that polished either. It's a B-Movie game and IMO worth it. On sale, obviously it's even better. I don't know if the sequel is good or not, I don't own a copy of it, but I don't doubt if it is at least as good, I will buy it one day. I played the game without any issues (performance or crashes) on Windows 10, i7 4710HQ laptop with 16GB of RAM, GTX 860M GPU with 4GB of VRAM and a 2.5" SATA SSD. I had the music off, just in case. I played the game on "casual" difficulty, of which there are 3-4 IIRC.

Inner Chains

Interesting game

I streamed this game for my Twitch streams for Halloween 2025 period. First time play. I liked it, based on what it was trying to be and succeeding at it. It's a linear FPS with "levels". You have to find the "exit" to proceed to the next level. There are few levels, good size each. It took me about 8 hours to reach the ending and that is with some exploring and with me playing games slower than others according to all the "how long to beat" experience so far. I would say someone who is more focused and wants to finish the game sooner, can probably do so in perhaps even half the time. Not a negative at the price range. I enjoyed the game. It's a horror post apocalyptic setting with disturbing images and story. Definitely not a cheerful feel better setting. The story is unraveled through unlocking the local language by finding items which help you read various writings. The story is not necessary to enjoy the game, though obviously it helps better understanding what is going on. Your character moves slower than most FPS games out there, so if you want something fast, this is not it. Considering the state of your body, I would say it's normal and makes sense. I didn't find the speed to be a problem, though other reviewers seem to complain about it for whatever reason. You can run at slightly increased speed, but it's not something you will do very often IMO. There are only 3 weapons to use which you find while you play. There is a rock paper scissors mechanic where some weapons are better against some enemies and even close to useless against some. Nothing too difficult to figure out. There are plenty of ammo and health pickups, but you do need to pay attention to how you use your weapons so that you don't end up without ammo at a bad time. The shooting part of the game is fine, no complaints. You need to remember some weapons eventually have two functions and that for the main function you can even either "spray and pray" or play it "single shot". The sound was weird, the sound 3D positioning felt wrong to me. I could hear my own footsteps coming from the rear, which I never fully got used to it or like it. Overall I would say the sound is a bit off for my taste. There is a little bit of speech which is easy to hear and there are subtitles if you have any issues. The game has no manual save system. There is a checkpoint system which works fine, though obviously if you need to leave right away, you might end up losing few minutes of play. The graphics are fine to good depending on what you are looking at, if you play with max settings. If like me you have to play with the lowest settings because your PC can't handle the game, it will look poop. Like really poop. But it will run. I played it on my i7 4710HQ laptop with 16GB of RAM, SATA SSD, Nvidia GTX 860m. At lowest settings at 1080p I was getting between 30 and 60 fps. At high settings at 1080p I was getting framerate in the 20s which felt unplayable. Overall if you want to play a horror/scary/creepy FPS, but don't want too many jump scares or too scary, then this is your game. It's not that difficult either so you don't have to be the best FPS gamer out there to finish it. I liked this game which is why I put it at 4 stars out of 5. Based on what it tries to be and succeeds at it. IF compared with other games for something it is not trying to be, then yes it's not as good. But for what it is, it did a good job.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon®

Different experience

I played the game when it was brand new, together with its expansion pack. Very different from any other FPS of the time. One thing, you get to see no hands/gun when you are aiming etc. Just a clear screen with the basic, but good, HUD. What type of shooter this is? Well the closer game to it, in terms of feel, was Operation Flashpoint, which later became the Arma series. GR though is a much tighter game, without the huge open areas you need vehicles at times to traverse. The difficulty though is there. You will die a lot when you first start playing the game. It's not full on simulation, but it is more "serious" than other FPS of the time, by far. Again, other than Operation Flashpoint. Plenty of missions to complete with your team and while you will find it annoying you can't see your gun, you will get used to it. Think of what happened a few years before this with Wing Commander 5. I played the game to completion, together with the expansion pack, but not alone. You see the game has (and I assume still works?) co-op gameplay. With basic broadband connection of the time, we managed to play and enjoy completing this game. It was a very fun, though hard at times, experience. Also, IIRC still the only game I completed in co-op which isn't Double Dragon. And here you don't even have to fight your brother. Very good game, just know what you are getting into. This is not Doom, or Duke Nukem 3D. This is not Quake or UT. I haven't played the game in many years, including this GOG version which yes I own, so I can't speak about any technical issues, but I assume it is fine. Buy the game, play it, but remember this is not going to be easy.

Pandora: First Contact - Gold Edition

One things ruins it for me

I was streaming this game no in June 2025. First time playing it. I love turn based strategy game. Felt like a mix of Beyond Earth, SMAC, Civilization series. Really enjoying the setting, the lore, even the graphics. Then we came under attack from the native aliens. That's not the problem. The problem is there is no camera focus, no zooming in, no combat animation while the enemy attacks you. If there is any battle after you click on end turn, then all you get is small text info about the result on the right side of the screen where you get the rest of the game notifications. That's it. No animation. No idea battles are taking place and where. You have to click on each result to see where the battle took place, not that you can see anything other than the now surviving units. WHERE IS THE FUN IN THAT? For me it ruins all fun in the game. RUINS IT. I am not giving it 1 star because I am sure many people don't care about this issue, but I do. Two stars, If the game had the option to see the battles, I would give it at least 4 stars out of 5, based on what I have seen so far. As is, I refuse to continue playing like this. Pissed off. I wish I could ask for my money back, but it's been years since I bought it. Not GOG's fault I just played it.
