Story:

Play the role of a deity in a land where the surroundings are yours to shape and its people are yours to lord over. Your actions decide whether you create a heaven or hell for your worshipers. Then select a creature from the land to act as your representative in the world. i miss being able to build villages in it signature building system not seen anywhere else. all other base builders are so complex or are limited to grid. i grew up with this game and would love to be able to play it again. there is no other game like it.Arsenick101

i miss being able to build villages in it signature building system not seen anywhere else. all other base builders are so complex or are limited to grid. i grew up with this game and would love to be able to play it again. there is no other game like it.

I played it with my kids when they where younger. There was a strong emotional attachment to caring for and guiding there creature threw the game. We have always eyed the many games sense, over the years. Never have found a game like it. I think the depth of the game was ahead of its time. Now , maybe someday soon.

I loved playing this as a kid. Managed to pick it up when Lionehead goofed on the price and had it bundled with Malice in Wonderland. It quickly became one of my favorite games. I had never really played a god game like it before and your freedom of choice around what kind of god you would be had so much depth. I still have the OG disc but, of course it wont run on the more modern system. T-T I was hoping that it would get a reboot when LionHead was picked up by Microsoft and they had been releasing catalog games. Sadly it was not included.

I would love to see this on GOG. But with the Creature Isle expansion and all bonus creatures + updates. Otherwise the excellent community patches that already exist for Windows 10 will remain better than a GOG release. Would love to see the full bundle on GOG! Same applies for Black and White 2: The Battle Of The Gods expansion.

It was the first of its kind. Being able to play as a God in Sim City is okay but this brought a whole new meaning to the world. Worshippers, temples, creatures and having to save your people from other gods. While we’re at it, Bring back Black and White 2 as well!!!

This is a game that’s always stuck with me and I have never encountered anything like it. I remember firing this up as a kid and being in awe of the atmosphere it created. The game is a blast to play and grants immense freedom to the player. Most of all, I remember zooming out and watching the villagers go about their day while doing homework and casually sacrificing the town breeder once his seed spread enough. Gotta strike fear in those peasants to keep them in line.

I remember reading pc magazines about this new game coming out where you get to be a god, and do whatever you want. This blew my young naive mind and when it finally came out I was quick to grab it. Though some have different opinions on this game and its "interesting" development; I absolutely loved it. I would play b&w for days on end and its songs, the charm and humour are forever etched into my memory. Leaving the game on overnight to see what amusing things the Creature did the following day, to my "edgy" moments of picking on the villagers, this game is such a delight and it is a terrible sin for it to have been so neglected. I saw in this game a vision of what games could be, and though it certainly has its flaws, I hope we see a resurgence of this type of freedom and creativity in the industry, because my god it needs it.

My parents let me play this when I was way to young to understand what the heck was happening, I just remember getting to have a giant pet! I played B&G2 when I was a teenager and fell in love with the game. I'd love to go back a play B&G as an adult so I can play as intended by the developers.

FreelancerEight hundred years prior to the start of our story, bitter conflict divided all of mankind. A handful of colonists struck out on their own to begin anew - far away from the Earth and its turmoil. Several ships were launched with enough equipment and supplies to give the hundreds onboard a fighting chance - but since the area around far-off Sirius had never been surveyed, no one really knew what to expect. What they found was a new frontier of free-flowing natural resources, unexplored territories, great wonders and lurking dangers. Each ship, representing the clusters of people and their earthly place of origin, settled into different parts of the galaxy pre-selected by their ship-board computer to give them the best chance of survival. Life was hard in the beginning, but over the 800 years the different colonies prospered and expanded their territories, claiming more and more systems for their own. Survival and propagation eventually led to growth and profit as each of the colonies developed specialties and fostered commerce. As the colonies grew and time passed their connections with their roots on Earth dwindled and they lost their memories of the conflicts of the past. Soon their attention was dominated by new, more immediate conflicts. Feelings of lost ancestral connection spurred anachronism in the look of the great cities, and created a somewhat distorted image of each colony's cultural heritage. In the ever-expanding outer edge of the territories, frontier lawlessness prevailed. The Houses: Each shipboard colony that left Earth carried some memory of its origins in its name. The Liberty carried Americans, The Bretonia flew from The United Kingdom and surrounding territory, The Kusari from Asia, and the Rheinland launched with Germanic cargo. As each ship settled and colonies began to expand, they knew little about each other and their advancing development. Finally, little by little, the individual colonies found each other and began to set up trade routes to link their systems for commerce and solidarity. Today, with each colony firmly rooted in its respective corner of the galaxy, the colonies rely heavily on each other for trade and industry but also compete for resources and new territories in the Border Worlds. The colonies mandate member governments in "The New Alliance" within the Sirius sector. To control conflicts, each colony has forged alliances and treaties with others as they have grown. Competition remains fierce, however. Struggles rage for supremacy in business, commerce, resources, power and control. There can be tenuous peace between colonies' political agendas, but the grabs for holdings constantly unsettle the volatile frontier.
