Story:

The player takes the role of a namable Hero. The Hero's name has an effect on his statistical growth over the course of the game. Battles are fought in a turn-based format and experience points and gold are awarded after every battle, allowing the Hero to level-up in ability and allows them to buy better weapons, armor, and items. Dragon Quest (Dragon Warrior back then) was my first RPG and I loved the experience - going around exploring, grinding to build up experience and gold to get to the next area, finding the hidden items - the game is a masterpiece and still the greatest RPG series around. Still the purist, most faithful RPG series, while other famous series have all moved away from their roots Dragon Quest embraces those roots. This is, and will always be, a classic

This was the first RPG video game I ever owned. When my grandparents got me and my siblings our NES, they got us 3 games as well. Marble Madness, Tetris and this. I played the heck out of this, and even got my non-gaming non-computer system dad to start playing it as well.

It was my intro to Jrpgs. The entire series is classic, From Beginning to end, Toriyami's influence was there. Its kind of making me want to play it again .....:)

The first "real" (in how it handled most mechanics) JRPG there ever was. It's a bit bare bones, but still loads of fun. It gives a nice sense of progression whenever your level is adequate to progress (although it might take an hour of grinding). I advise anyone to play it at least once, as it is not a long game and - despite some missing QoL - still holds up remarkably well. I hope that GOG - IF they ever release it - give you the option between different versions. I only played the original US release on the NES, but I'd love to try the rereleases on GBC and SNES in the future

Ohhhhh, the grind of battling slimes, as a naked knave, throughout the forests and mountains north of Tentegal and Brecconary to gain a solitary experience point in the early stages of Dragon Warrior are some of my best childhood memories. Pushing it to the last possible hit point and streaking back to town, dodging every additional fight along the way, brings back fits of anxiety. Please bring this back so I can relive these long-held memories and pass these traditions along to my (future) grandchildren. This new generation needs to understand the true meaning of frustration and disappointment. The shear terror of a sudden attack by a red slime. The inability to run away. And the immediate surrender of 20 XP to the Gaming Gods as a reminder of your greed for staying on the battlefield too long. These are the lessons that the 80s taught so well.

This was my first ever RPG on the Nintendo. Without this game, the likes of Final Fantasy and others might never have gotten off the ground. Thou hast done well.

this is the first RPG I ever owned. I remember me and my brother trying to figure out how to get out of the throne room you start in. We gave up many times, not understanding how to open the chests. Our older brother finally showed us how to unlock the tresure chest to get the key to the door. Once he did that then the game went from the worst game ever to the best game ever, we were hooked on RPG's since then. Its still a great game to play now. Every 3 or 4 years ill replay though this one for the memories and to hunt a few elusive metal slimes.

I remember this game from my childhood. this was my first NES game i ever owned as i recieved free from Nintendo. I put so many hours into this trying to find everything and grind out levels. it was so much fun for me and my brother.

My first computer was an Packardbell with an awsome 25 MHz Processor. To play these games, just brings back old memories . I recall when the weekend came, falling asleep behind my comupter playing these games. Good Times.

I did not play this one but the first two Dragon Warrior games on our NES. I had no idea at the time but found out years later from one of my kids (who was blown away that Mom had beaten two Dragon Warrior games back in the day) that the name I had chosen, Blue, was one of the good ones. I don't recall how long it took me to finish but I do remember grinding and grinding and grinding...and grinding some more in order to beat them.

FreelancerEight hundred years prior to the start of our story, bitter conflict divided all of mankind. A handful of colonists struck out on their own to begin anew - far away from the Earth and its turmoil. Several ships were launched with enough equipment and supplies to give the hundreds onboard a fighting chance - but since the area around far-off Sirius had never been surveyed, no one really knew what to expect. What they found was a new frontier of free-flowing natural resources, unexplored territories, great wonders and lurking dangers. Each ship, representing the clusters of people and their earthly place of origin, settled into different parts of the galaxy pre-selected by their ship-board computer to give them the best chance of survival. Life was hard in the beginning, but over the 800 years the different colonies prospered and expanded their territories, claiming more and more systems for their own. Survival and propagation eventually led to growth and profit as each of the colonies developed specialties and fostered commerce. As the colonies grew and time passed their connections with their roots on Earth dwindled and they lost their memories of the conflicts of the past. Soon their attention was dominated by new, more immediate conflicts. Feelings of lost ancestral connection spurred anachronism in the look of the great cities, and created a somewhat distorted image of each colony's cultural heritage. In the ever-expanding outer edge of the territories, frontier lawlessness prevailed. The Houses: Each shipboard colony that left Earth carried some memory of its origins in its name. The Liberty carried Americans, The Bretonia flew from The United Kingdom and surrounding territory, The Kusari from Asia, and the Rheinland launched with Germanic cargo. As each ship settled and colonies began to expand, they knew little about each other and their advancing development. Finally, little by little, the individual colonies found each other and began to set up trade routes to link their systems for commerce and solidarity. Today, with each colony firmly rooted in its respective corner of the galaxy, the colonies rely heavily on each other for trade and industry but also compete for resources and new territories in the Border Worlds. The colonies mandate member governments in "The New Alliance" within the Sirius sector. To control conflicts, each colony has forged alliances and treaties with others as they have grown. Competition remains fierce, however. Struggles rage for supremacy in business, commerce, resources, power and control. There can be tenuous peace between colonies' political agendas, but the grabs for holdings constantly unsettle the volatile frontier.
