Story:

The player takes the role of a namable Hero. The Hero's name has an effect on his statistical growth over the course of the game. Battles are fought in a turn-based format and experience points and gold are awarded after every battle, allowing the Hero to level-up in ability and allows them to buy better weapons, armor, and items. Remind me a lot of Final Fantasy on NES. Good memories. Would like sometime a comeback of the retro gaming. Some people still create NES, Atari, Sega games and these games are better than ever! Sometime people use Twitch, Youtube or other platforms to talk these...

Dragon Quest holds a special place in my heart. One of the first Nintendo games I owned, and played for hours with my brother multiple times. Having only played some Scott Adams text adventures and of course Atari "Adventure" up to this point, it made a huge impression on me in my early gaming years. It is forever burned into my memory along with FF1. Would love the series to come to GoG if possible!

I played the first Dragon Quest on my college roommate's 8-bit NES, and he would wander through the room sometimes and give me helpful hints (he'd already finished the game by then). I'd turn off the TV volume and play the Smashing Pumpkins "Siamese Dream" album on repeat over and over while exploring the map and all those dungeons. Can't remember if I ever actually finished the game or not, but dang those were good days - just seeing the screenshots her on GOG brought a big smile to my face.

The quest to start all quests. This is like, in no offense to old people (it's over for you if you have a child), going back to the 1700's. Jokes aside, this game makes the basics great and allows you to relax under a world that is hugely expansive. Sitting down and playing this game is so pure to what gaming is. I would love for others including myself to have a chance to go back into this world, or experience it for the first time as a GOG.

It's just a classic old time RPG. It brings back alot of memories. Hooked from day one. Opened my eyes to how great RPG's could be. The only old RPG I liked better was Phantasy Star 1.

One of my first RPGs I ever played as a teen. Came out as Dragon Warrior on the NES for the ports to North America back in the late 80's. My family was scraping by, so I had to get a part time job to use my earnings to buy my first NES and either buy or rent video games for it. Rented this game many times until I beat it.

Originally played this on iPad touch gen 3 model. I played the GBC double pack version of DQ1 and 2. It was my first game in the series and while I played it passively and didn't think much of it at the time, I've come to appreciate the game as a classic and love to replay it on various other systems. This would be a great addition to the Preservation program because it is one of the most influential JRPGs of all time

Out of the four Dragon Quest (Dragon Warrior) games for the original NES, this is my favorite followed closely after DQ4. The pacing is just right to keep the players attention, and it challenges the player to want to keep playing. The graphics and sound effects are decent, but the music is awesome! The menu system in DQ could use an overhaul; a QOL improvement is needed there.

I remember reading the booklet that came with this game countless times (I thought the fire blade looked cool). I'm sure I never beat it, I didn't get a lot of game-time when I was that age, and if it wasn't something my limited skillset/patience could beat I usually didn't get far. But looking at those graphics REALLY tweaks the nostalgia and makes me want to go digging and see if I can find my copy. I had the "Dragon Warrior" US release and I still think the cover looks great.

FreelancerEight hundred years prior to the start of our story, bitter conflict divided all of mankind. A handful of colonists struck out on their own to begin anew - far away from the Earth and its turmoil. Several ships were launched with enough equipment and supplies to give the hundreds onboard a fighting chance - but since the area around far-off Sirius had never been surveyed, no one really knew what to expect. What they found was a new frontier of free-flowing natural resources, unexplored territories, great wonders and lurking dangers. Each ship, representing the clusters of people and their earthly place of origin, settled into different parts of the galaxy pre-selected by their ship-board computer to give them the best chance of survival. Life was hard in the beginning, but over the 800 years the different colonies prospered and expanded their territories, claiming more and more systems for their own. Survival and propagation eventually led to growth and profit as each of the colonies developed specialties and fostered commerce. As the colonies grew and time passed their connections with their roots on Earth dwindled and they lost their memories of the conflicts of the past. Soon their attention was dominated by new, more immediate conflicts. Feelings of lost ancestral connection spurred anachronism in the look of the great cities, and created a somewhat distorted image of each colony's cultural heritage. In the ever-expanding outer edge of the territories, frontier lawlessness prevailed. The Houses: Each shipboard colony that left Earth carried some memory of its origins in its name. The Liberty carried Americans, The Bretonia flew from The United Kingdom and surrounding territory, The Kusari from Asia, and the Rheinland launched with Germanic cargo. As each ship settled and colonies began to expand, they knew little about each other and their advancing development. Finally, little by little, the individual colonies found each other and began to set up trade routes to link their systems for commerce and solidarity. Today, with each colony firmly rooted in its respective corner of the galaxy, the colonies rely heavily on each other for trade and industry but also compete for resources and new territories in the Border Worlds. The colonies mandate member governments in "The New Alliance" within the Sirius sector. To control conflicts, each colony has forged alliances and treaties with others as they have grown. Competition remains fierce, however. Struggles rage for supremacy in business, commerce, resources, power and control. There can be tenuous peace between colonies' political agendas, but the grabs for holdings constantly unsettle the volatile frontier.
