Story:
Eight hundred years prior to the start of our story, bitter conflict divided all of mankind. A handful of colonists struck out on their own to begin anew - far away from the Earth and its turmoil. Several ships were launched with enough equipment and supplies to give the hundreds onboard a fighting chance - but since the area around far-off Sirius had never been surveyed, no one really knew what to expect. What they found was a new frontier of free-flowing natural resources, unexplored territories, great wonders and lurking dangers. Each ship, representing the clusters of people and their earthly place of origin, settled into different parts of the galaxy pre-selected by their ship-board computer to give them the best chance of survival. Life was hard in the beginning, but over the 800 years the different colonies prospered and expanded their territories, claiming more and more systems for their own. Survival and propagation eventually led to growth and profit as each of the colonies developed specialties and fostered commerce. As the colonies grew and time passed their connections with their roots on Earth dwindled and they lost their memories of the conflicts of the past. Soon their attention was dominated by new, more immediate conflicts. Feelings of lost ancestral connection spurred anachronism in the look of the great cities, and created a somewhat distorted image of each colony's cultural heritage. In the ever-expanding outer edge of the territories, frontier lawlessness prevailed. The Houses: Each shipboard colony that left Earth carried some memory of its origins in its name. The Liberty carried Americans, The Bretonia flew from The United Kingdom and surrounding territory, The Kusari from Asia, and the Rheinland launched with Germanic cargo. As each ship settled and colonies began to expand, they knew little about each other and their advancing development. Finally, little by little, the individual colonies found each other and began to set up trade routes to link their systems for commerce and solidarity. Today, with each colony firmly rooted in its respective corner of the galaxy, the colonies rely heavily on each other for trade and industry but also compete for resources and new territories in the Border Worlds. The colonies mandate member governments in "The New Alliance" within the Sirius sector. To control conflicts, each colony has forged alliances and treaties with others as they have grown. Competition remains fierce, however. Struggles rage for supremacy in business, commerce, resources, power and control. There can be tenuous peace between colonies' political agendas, but the grabs for holdings constantly unsettle the volatile frontier.

This game I've spent hours as kid trying to find secrets before the net was a thing just go around system to system trading and just all around finding things. I did find alien ship you could buy, which blew my mind as kid. Reason I want this on GOG because well first I want to play it again and second having on DRM free platform would be awesome. doc1986

I played this game over and over again. I will never have an experience like living as a space pirate in this game, and there is quite a lot of content on Pirate stations! You could do missions for them and get their weird weapons for your ship.

This game has to be one of the best, if not the best Space Sim that was ever produced. They just don't make games like this anymore. My Brother and I spent months playing this wonderful game and if I start talking about what i like about this game I will be here for hours typing, So I will sum it up with " The best thing about this game is ALL OF IT" and I still have my CD of this game and every time I come across it while rearangeing my stored items, I think to myself "Someone needs to bring this gem back" as I sure that if GoG can get it back into the public there will be a whole new genaration that will get hooked on this game. So if you are reading this post get that mouse of yours and click to bring this game back to live.

I had a LAN party with some friends where we played nothing but Freelancer - for three days. We looked up the most lucrative trade route and tried to run it as low level characters. It was exciting! I am so excited for the chance to dive into this game again that devoured thousand of hours of my youth.

Best space sim experience I have ever had. This game really felt like you were a young gun making his way and moving up in the universe. Hunting for the best ships and components, and exploring the universe were incredibly rewarding.

Freelancer had a near-perfect execution of scale- it wasn't realistically big, but it was big enough that didn't matter. The flight controls were intuitive and easy to master, even if not full Newtonian flight. There are glowing nebulae and asteroid thickets and glowing nebulae with asteroids in them, but it's beautifully done and the skybox backdrops are just as well done. Played through the campaign multiple times on this game, and the openly moddable data files left a large community of fan-made content. There's an amazing and fun campaign to play through, a sandbox of secrets to discover post-campaign, and multiplayer is easy to host at home. The game was so far ahead of its time, its original creator has spent over a decade trying to develop its spiritual sequel- Star Citizen- out of open alpha.

Second game I ever played, after watching my dad play it as a very young child. Absolutely fantastic game that I still find fun in playing, in ways that other games somehow still can't match today. It's a classic experience that deserves to be played again today, it has lessons that could help to improve so many similar sci-fi games today.
There was a time in my life where if I had to pick a favorite game of all time (at that time), it was Freelancer. Ever since I was a kid I've always been fascinated by space travel and futuristic technology, so when my older cousin introduced me to this game, which put you into a living, breathing universe (or what seemed that way to my younger self) and gave you the freedom to go anywhere and do anything you wanted, I was instantly hooked. Since then I've spent countless hours on it over the years, and if I had to make a personal tier list of "best video games ever made", Freelancer would easily be in the top 10. Now that I'm older and have a nephew, I'd love to someday show this to him same as my older cousin did for me all those years ago.

Black & White 2
Black & White 2In the game, the player takes the role of a god called from the void (nothingness) to help those who invoked them. However, the player is not an omnipotent style god, but rather a god who rises and falls with his believers and the player must help develop their nature according to their good or evil desires. The player also has a creature, their physical representation in the world, which takes the form of an anthropomorphic ape, lion, wolf, turtle, cow, or tiger. Its physical manifestation can grow to an immense size, and adopt a good or evil persona separate of the player's. They develop their character as the player rewards or punishes their actions. In addition to the god simulation and city-building elements introduced in the original Black & White, Black & White 2 also features elements of real-time strategy gameplay, with the addition of controllable warfare and fighting units.
