Better than the original overall, gameplay wise espetially, but worse campaign wise. Still like it is a better game than the original, and I love the original game, because of the Dwarves and Goblins. Also the conquest map (or whatever it was called) was a great addition and made the game much more enjoyable experience. Would greatly apreciate iff this allongside the first game ( and, if possible, the expansion) would be added to the preservation program. Also am I the only one who build the gondorian ranger stacks and unsuccesfully atempted to use stealth in any situation, even when it was far beyond sub-optimal solution, simply because it was fun.Vieru

There are a couple games I associate with my childhood vividly, and this is one of them. Back in the days of Windows XP, installing a copy I and my siblings had bought pooling our pocket money together, clueless to things such as ’minimum required specs’. Took half an hour to load into a game. On a bad day, 45 minutes. Probably played like a slideshow. But my god, it was a glorious game. We could relieve the sieges from the movies with us as generals ordering Gondor’s bravest around. We could chase after Gollum and capture the One Ring, see Galadriel sweep entire armies as the dark queen. We created so many heroes in the character creator, overpowered OCs to lead armies of good and evil. What an amazing game!

I remember going to best buy multiple times when younger to play this game on the xbox 360 they had set up there. I was amazed by being able to command cave trolls to pick up trees and smash enemies. Its what got me that console for christmas, and into gaming for real. Also what got me into the strategy genre. Since we rarely get a good LOTR game these days, much less a strategy one, Id love for this and the original game to be preserved.
This game was my second every strategy game I found and loved, right after Age of Empires. I was limited on game time like most kids are, but convinced my parents to let me play the campaign mode with auto resolving battles because at that point it was just a digital board game if they didn't want to play Risk with me. And then tragically the disks became corrupted and now I've been looking for a way to play this game ever since.
i need this..... you don't get it i need my Uruk'hai ..... i NEED MY LURTZ I SPENT DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYS WEEEEEEEEEEEEKS MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONTHS at least 2 YEAAAAAAAAAAARS xD GIBE ME LOTR!
First RTS in my entire life. Revisited.. Damn it is so unbalanced. However it is one of THE rts games, that might not have been popular but were interesting with good ideas. Getting a ring felt like the most powefull, op thing in the entire game. Summonning Balrog in the middle of the town, throwing fire everywhere. Beautiful. I felt that each fraction had this feling of being part of it i still remember Isengard with their buildings destroying surroundings that would make you chant to burn the trees. It was underdog of RTS games, not competetive but fun.

I was always a huge LOTR Fan, then my parents gave me this game for christmas. I wa so fascinated - it brought middle earth to live, and told a story that wasnt the one from the movies or the book, but just so great. Especially to be able to play the campaign as the evil side. I have the original copy, but id love to be able to play it without using a no cd patch or using the cd, which is somehow damaged...

This is one of those game that should have been able to be preserved as its good and evil campaigns and local matches were so good. But now if you try to install the original copies it just shuts itself. Its heartbreaking. The server were closed and the game got bricked. Its so unfair for such a masterpiece to get thrown into oblivion. Luckily there is still people that love it and make it possible to play.

This is the only strategy game I played through, albeit in story mode, and I am not the kind of person who enjoys playing strategy games, especially not for as much as I did this one. I have fond memories of it.
Those games also need your vote!
Black & White
Black & WhitePlay the role of a deity in a land where the surroundings are yours to shape and its people are yours to lord over. Be an evil, malevolent god and the natives will worship you with fear in their eyes. Play as a kind, benevolent god and they will worship you with love in their hearts. Your actions decide whether you create a heaven or hell for your worshipers. Then select a creature from the land to act as your representative in the world. Raise it to gigantic proportions and teach it to do your bidding--whether the animal grows into an evil colossus of mass destruction or a kind and gentle giant is up to you. Progress through the game's rich storyline performing powerful miracles to battle other deities and become the world's supreme god.

Black & White 2
Black & White 2In the game, the player takes the role of a god called from the void (nothingness) to help those who invoked them. However, the player is not an omnipotent style god, but rather a god who rises and falls with his believers and the player must help develop their nature according to their good or evil desires. The player also has a creature, their physical representation in the world, which takes the form of an anthropomorphic ape, lion, wolf, turtle, cow, or tiger. Its physical manifestation can grow to an immense size, and adopt a good or evil persona separate of the player's. They develop their character as the player rewards or punishes their actions. In addition to the god simulation and city-building elements introduced in the original Black & White, Black & White 2 also features elements of real-time strategy gameplay, with the addition of controllable warfare and fighting units.
