I havent 'belittled' anyone but nice try.
'Untill I alligned myself with anti woke' is such a nice respectful thing to say. I have every right to feel what I feel without having ppl like you and your friends call me vile things for it because you think its cool and progressive and inclusive no matter how and where its forced in. You calling it stupid and trying to ridicule it with stupid examples is more of the same too.
And I certainly will 'overreact' when pp call me and others who dont like forced woke for such vile things because you cant bother with complex reasoning and logic.
There are certainly ppl picking a fight and baiting here, even tho I simply gave an objective reply to someone else which seem to offend to the point where its easier to just call me a racist nazi and say lmao. As well as all the ppl here who have called me those nasty things who frequently go around in other threads on the forum not exactly being nice ppl there either. And you pretend to be the ppl who want a better world with equality but go around saying that? History is repeating but this time it will be reversed I fear.
This forum has some very rude users with no open minds and closed hearts and no capacity for understanding the bigger picture of how harmfull this is.
It doesnt matter what reasoning we give, how civil and objective, honest and true we say it, we are by definition nazi scum in your eyes if we dont think companies should hire based on skin color and who they prefer to invite into their bed, instead of for qualifications. Or cast woke in games and movies but same time make it sound so bad with terrible dialogue to the point of ridiculousness. If they actually cared about their precious DEI, which they dont, they would make sure to write it well, make it sound and look good, not for a checkbox. Black Harry Potter up soon no doubt.

I have already explained it why in a previous comment here, as well as many other times in other threads, very thoroughly, civil and polite and objective. If you and others cant or dont want to see this but only what you want to see, then I cant do more for you but its instead intended for others who can and have an interest in talking about these things, without name calling and other rude baiting pettyness.

It's the nicest thing anyone in this thread has said to you!

You can't reason someone out of a position she didn't reason herself into, I'm afraid. Best to pack up and leave.

I have seen the above mantra quite a few times, and the funny thing (which is the aspect is concerns me given that this thread is so far off-topic that even has reached the outer solar system).
That mantra sounds great but has little meaning or value particularly in this specific context/discussion - or in most online discusssions for that matter - ss for the statement to be valid needs to meet some criteria namely that both parties start from the position that is rational.

In online discussions usually neither parties start from a place of reason or even discussing anything substantial, that is demonstrated when by, for example (but not only) emotional outbursts triggered by keywords/views that one party disagrees with that generate a snowball effect level of misunderstandings that

Expecting a sound/rational discussion from this context is insane or that it would yield a different outcome at the 10005th time is not realistic.

I could go on this "essay", but this the TLDR version is: look at the thread topic (how it started :p) and what are both parties are discussing (how it ended).

- only commenting as dont think anyone has mentioned this, and since we are so off-topic, why not provide a comment that is very different :) as am sure the internet will continue to have discussions as the above :D because that is an internet classic !

And now....to forum games we go!

dudalb: The DRM wars are over, and DRM won, but that is another topic...
Which war? The small GOG that mainly was ignored by the mass-stream since the day they existed? There was never any war going on and it was never with some comparable frontlines. Not really possible as long as the industry, mainly, is still pushing DRM pretty strong as it is getting sufficiently accepted.

Nonetheless... GOG has never been with so many quality games in their arsenal, so, there is room for hope and for improvements done. DRM Free is not done but as long as gamers are not trying to be more than just a sheer "consumer", the general landscape may barely change.

There is still the major issue that many devs are not considering anything outside Steam, not because of DRM but because like over 90% is mass-centered on the Steamroller, so they barely see any point into providing any other place. DRM is not even the main issue... the main issue is that only one platform basically got the big crowd and no other place.

If GOG would have 20% gamer support... we may have for example Palworld already... yet, so far the devs just did not really bother with if they see a number perhaps more like 5% (outside Steam).

Certainly, GOG got so much open market share they possibly "could take"; if they are able to put on some stronger fighting-gloves. Steam is out of possibilities now as they already own almost everything available,... almost no more growth possible.

Ultimately it is not so much a DRM Free thing for which the mass may not care... it is more a thing of being able to attract a bigger gamer-base... no matter how it is done, and DRM Free is just one of many factors playing a role.

Added above too for calling me a maga, some of you are taking it way too far and deserve permanent bans for this shit.

lupineshadow: You are overreacting and picking a fight. Nobody started this until you aligned yourself with anti-woke, and then took offense because some of those views are held by racists or misogynists. You also belittled a "cat girl" in the process who said nothing wrong or inflammatory, so don't go playing the victim card about how people are being so mean to you.

The steam group referenced is: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/44927664-Woke-Content-Detector/

Posting because it's hilarious how stupid some of those complaints are and always good for a laugh.

Nobody is saying that wokeness isn't a thing, but you are overreacting and repeating a lot of the tropes. A more reasoned and balanced argument might be more well-received.

Contains subtly pro-climate action messaging. Enemies are enraged by pollution. With higher pollution they evolve faster, become larger, and attack more aggressively.

lupineshadow: Can anyone guess what horrible game this is?

Or this one is a bit easier:

Contains overtly pro-DEI messaging. Features an improbably diverse cast. The player character is a fat guy who can somehow deep-dive and swim long distances without trouble. The sushi chef is Black.

My favorite (tho not from THAT particular curator, but another one in a similar vein) is still the one for the new 2d terminator game.

I already posted it in the thread but

I recently saw a "woke" complainer curator's review of the new terminator game.

quote:
"“There are no direct references to "woke," but our beloved, masculine Terminator is a supporting character. This is a Sarah game now.And this already raises questions. "
It is pretty simple really, if people complaining about "wokeness" do not want to be identified as racists, sexists, homophobes and transphobes, maybe their opinions and actions should not uh, align with racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia.
I have yet to see a single one that does not.

Could you guys, gals or whatever take this matter somewhere else... i mean outside such topics? I am slowly becoming a headache because of all this constant... i even dunno what it is exactly, probably valuing, devaluing, rating, judging or whatever of humans or groups... over and over until the point the soup of grass has already been ruminated 10 times in a row. I wish i could i could see any value but... the grass is without any vitality left, just some ooze now.

I mean, humans are valuable... the most... if they are in some way lovely. They do not even need to be friendly, just in some way having a exceptional fragrance on the level of mind and heart. The attachments they have may not be a big deal if the most essential conditions has been met. Only focusing on "what has been attached" is one of the most superficial traits and actually dishonoring humans in general. On top of that i just dunno what it got to do in this topic... it is like talking about ruminating cows in a car-topic, just out of any integrity.

A lot of stuff i do not understand but at least i am honest about; so i do not pretend to understand everything.

The problem is the moment you use the label woke to rather lazily describe a situation where (in your opinion) a product has suffered from poor casting or poor hiring policies (as in not choosing skill and character suitability as the primary choices for utilising talent), you immediately fall afoul of those who want to equally lazily mark you as being anti-... well... whatever seems to fit. e.g. choose to blame a character design choice which was contrary to its traditional depictions and despite the resultant output was sub-par, you get called racist/sexist/phobic. And yes, it's exactly that facile and reactionary.

I wonder what would happen if gog grew so big. LIkely there wouldn't be a worry about storage servers at least.

Or even how would the alternate reality look like without steam, where we would have all these weird mandatory clients for each major publishing house, fractioning the pc base, each offering their own flavor of walled-off garden (with gfwl being alive and well?!). The only certainty I have is that Tim Sweeney likely wouldn't be so chronically stressed out.

Makes me wonder if linux gaming would then even be a thing outside of a few big-brain devs like Carmack etc who would devote their free time to maintain a native linux builds for a handful of nerds out there.

flowingshard123: I was talking more about the total amount of users on PC. For example if Steam has 150 million users than 30 million for GOG = 20% which would be enough for more Publishers/Developers to pay serious attention to GOG. It is true GOG would also need to increase their revenue size, anywhere from $500Million to $1Billion a 10-20x increase which is very unlikely/mostly impossible at least currently. It may never get there due to majority of people preferring convenience than abstract digital ownership/rights until it affect them personally and they get burnt from it. [...]
I get why users are important, but I'm going to argue revenue is more relevant than users.

You can have a ton of users and be unprofitable. For example, Xbox Game Pass with 30M users, but only makes 3% net profit, and they're struggling to acquire more users. Epic has 78M users, but only $400M USD, which means each of their active gamers is spending $5.13 USD/yr/user.

What is the immediate point of having so many users or customers if you can't sell them much? Maybe if they can read the tea leaves and have an accurate forecast of how much these users will be spending if they figure out a proper sales strategy (e.g., wait 5 years until some of their 13 yo gamers are old enough to start working), but in terms of the present, it's pretty bad considering the average North American gamer spends $325 USD/year now.

- https://www.gamesindustry.biz/newzoo-north-american-gamers-spend-an-average-of-325-annually

How much the total # PC gamers there are is hard to quantify and track - at least from what I know. Hence why I use global PC market revenue since NewZoo keeps publishing these #s every year and are fairly reputable.

Without high userbase numbers nobody would spend anything because they wouldn't know you exist? And having a good reputation at the same time as a high userbase is likely that they'd spend at your store rather than a no mark store with less of a community base.

But cost also is a major factor the prices on your store reflect upon your public image and this is something I hate to say needs much work on gog.com despite loving it...it's prices are comparitively higher in a very big way they should track sales on the gg deals website and compare them to their own prices to see the problem 1st hand here.

I know someone will then say something to the effect of well these are one off sales by independent owners of keys etc but for eg. a game at £1.50 on gg deals cost £12.99 on gog.com at times, that in it's self is an image problem for gog.com irrespective of the response it is generally disliked and it pushes potential users away from buying consistantly, but if you resolve that then the hoards will come because gog.com is better established reputation wise than say kinguin or diffmark etc and a lot more trustworthy than these other stores on gg deals , there's no competition if your pricing your selves out of the race basically, it's the foremost issue that and the smaller archive (smaller game library) of gog.com that's defeating it's self against the competitiors in a nut shell.

Oh and a considerably outdated website style it's pretty basic and they see that first arrival it reflects badly to look so old school I get that's the vision for it by the company to have the site with an old school aesthetic but it won't work to draw custom in because the masses dropping in don't see it that way they will see it as lazy old fashioned website building and dated etc although it's not really it just looks it, but it's certainly not the prettiest of sites lets say that much it has a negative impact regarding the visuals it is unimpressive and thus unappealing to most compared to modern average sites,
passive income is good but it will never be great without a spruce up well really a total overhaul of that site design eventually, I'll tell you the present site design certainly isn't going to be viewed in a positve light to your average visitors as it seems somewhat old fashioned and sterile a little on the templated spectrum avoiding any real work from the outlook, I'd make custom generated images for the thumbnails if possible. that would vastly improve it with a more insteresting rad/retro font style to and it looks more bespoke it's something many sites do not make the effort to do and definitely should do.

Or simply that to 3 steps:

1.Price games more competatively and sensibly
2.Add a lot more games
3.Make the site more visually pleasing and add bespoke custom thumbnail artwork and headers

Steam is just the defactor store, regardless of how many stores appear one will always be the most proferred.
